I had heard about Thompson but had never gotten the chance to check it out, despite being in the same area as the Toxaway and Horsepasture. Though whenever it would be mentioned to me people wouldn’t necessarily hype it up. Which made it that much more mind blowing once I got to finally check it out. Not only are there more rapids and slides than I expected, but the two big slides are about as smooth and satisfying as slides ever get. You get so much speed but they aren’t stressful. The run only takes 10 minutes or less when you bomb down, and is almost non stop. Though as if the river itself wasn’t good enough. There’s no hike in, a 1 minute hike out, and a 5 minute shuttle. It is truly one of the best runs in the southeast.
