The Most Underused Revision Technique: How to Effectively Use Past Papers and Markschemes

Hey guys!! Eeeeek another UnJaded Revision Technique video... long time no see! Whether you're studying for GCSEs, A levels, IB exams or school tests, using past papers and mark schemes effectively to revise is so useful and largely underused. The real secret to past papers is not in doing them or getting an amazing grade; it's how you ANALYSE how you did and learn from it! 💛 I used MARCKS which was so helpful - especially for Chemistry and Biology A level! Let me know if you try this. In my eyes, it's the difference between an A and A* for example x

@@yonisderia8054 its this mark scheme help you write CORRECT SHORT answers you may have filled an entire space but get half marks or NONE at all it helps you save time immensely. Best wishes

Ok, Jade, so... I was always a good student, but for some reason last year I wasn't doing great in school. I came across your videos and now I'm an A student. I asked my teacher about how I can get up to an A* and she told me to use the markschemes to do so. - Analyse past papers - MARCKS (reasons why you lost marks) Maths Error Application (to do with science; given scenario you couldn't apply to a foreign situation) Read question (know everything but didn't read question/pay attention to mark schemes correctly) Communication (know exactly what you need to say; wording you used didn't get the marks for specific mark schemes) Knowledge (did you not know anything?) Statements (2 points but 4 marks) Tally up MARCKS for each letter to see why you are losing them. Write yourself a note of what you are going to do now after you've figured out what went wrong. (IMPORTANT) If you do not understand something: ASK A TEACHER IMMEDIATELY; do not wait. Re-do papers if you do really badly. Make a list of common questions e.g. Biology Reword mark schemes into notes/flashcards. Do as many past papers as possible.

i did last papers and got 8s for science. i did them before my GCSEs and in the exam, i would be like “oh, this question is like that question” and i could structure my answers based on them. they are fab.

@@pentium9998 like 2 weeks before lmao. I definitely should’ve done more but I don’t see much point in revising in year 10. Just keep on top of your school work and revise for any smaller tests you have, big revision can come later

i did my first set of year 10 mock exams a few weeks ago, and i ended up getting a grade 5 in my biology exam which i wasn't hoping for but it was still okay (i set myself really high expectations), but this marcks method is really helping me understand where i went wrong-significantly more than when my teacher went through it in the lesson afterwards. thanks, jade! x

Im in A level taking physics, biology and chemistry. I struggle a lot in physics and I feel like i use more time on it than the other two subjects. What's more frustrating is that I always end up not doing good on it. But like you said, I think I need to interact more with my physics teachers. Im always scared to ask them for help when I dont understand. I think I need to do that more.

We've just looked at your video this morning at XP East School in Doncaster. We liked the simplicity of your points, how well you explained them and how friendly you are. We're using the Cornell note taking method to summarise everything. Great work Jade!
