Inspired by Bird Keeper Toby, I began a hunt for one of every Pokémon, but in a very interesting way. Every Pokémon has a story, or will have when I finally finish it. This living dex challenge isn't easy or for the faint of heart, but it is a challenge I accept!

Toby's challenge stuck with me so much as well I love so many of the details of it and a few small parts that I don't like as much leading me to also make some changes to it and for some reason made me add even more difficult silly things to it. I'm still actually working on the challenge since I haven't finished alola as well as my added challenge of every colo and xd shadow pokemon plus evolutions meaning I have to get like a purified teddiursa, ursaring and ursaluna

I've been making a simular living dex for myself for the past couple of months, with the rules that all pokemon must come from the oldest released game it was available in. Also, all OT names are the same (so no online traiding and event pokemon only if there is no other choice to have it register under my own trainer name).

I chose to catch everything in its original game and the cross gen evolution and varientd from their games they came from.Future proofing cause im not gonna have multiple pokemon from older games for new varients and evolutions.

I would love to do this before Bank closes but I don’t have the Gen 1 or 2 games and my Gen 4 games both broke and buying them now is insanely expensive

If you have a 3ds look into hacking it. I'd say it's a valid way of doing this. Using cheats would spoil the experienced but I don't think removing a barrier to entry should count as cheating

I'm maming a living dex myself, my only condition being "Catch them in their respective Region" Rather than "Game" So, I can catch a Psyduck from Pokemon Red, Or from Let's Go Pikachu. Basically what I did with ORAS I was thinking about doing the "Cross Gen evolutions from their Parent's Original Game" thing, but when Annihilape came into existence, I gave up on that. Because...If they give Primeape an Evolution 8 generations later, Who knows who else will get an evo down the line? I'd have to basically catch doubles of every Pokemon But good on those who can actually pull that off though!

It is even worse. You could do that but the problem would be once they close Pokemon Bank. Let's say you have a Living Dex of Game Boy Mark Pokemon, which means to have every gen 1-2 Pokemon and every cross-gen evolution. What if in a few years, they add a new generation 10 evolution to a Pokemon like Pinsir? With Pokemon Bank closed you won't be able to catch a new Pinsir on gen 1-2 Virtual Console. Pokemon like Annihilape are inconvenient if you already completed that Living Dex in Gen8 you now need to capture a few more Pokemon in GB, but you can do it. But once Bank is closed it will be impossible.

I am doing an Origin Mark Living Dex and one of the things I hate most is the long process of moving Pokemon from one game to another before Gen 6. And the other thing I hate is the tedious work of sorting your Dex. For now, I have a Gen 1 and 2 Living Dex and I just need to capture a few duplicates to trade them to future gens and evolve them for cross-generation evolution with GB origin mark. Eventually, I gave up and decided to save my sanity and use PkHex to move my Pokemon from one game to another and sort my boxes. This program is best known for people who use it to generate hacked Pokemon but it also allows quality-of-life things like moving a Pokemon from one game to another and sorting all your boxes (for example from Colloseum to Ultra Mon) in one single click.

I also use PkHex to make life more convenient, but I try to keep it minimal. I think as long as your captures are legit, all's well and good!

16:55 Timid Celebi even. Well done. Did you purposely manipulated its stats so it will come out Timid? Virtual Console Pokémon normally are Hardy by default.

@@CroneoRegion No, that's not what I meant. I have no reason to believe your Celebi isn't legit. What I meant is that the nature of Virtual Console Pokémon are based on the last two digits of the XP that it has gained, which you can influence by having the Pokémon gain XP. In your case you were very lucky then that Celebi's XP amount ended with the exact right numbers. Nice. I remember I placed it in the daycare and counted steps before taking it out so it will get the right nature upin sending it to Ultra Sun. There are charts online that can help you with how to get it if you're interested.

What I mean by PAL is that its a European copy. I don't believe I did anything to alter its stats but I may have done

In Gen 3, yes. You couldn't find it in Hoenn, Orre and the rest of Kanto. Which first route are you on about?

I feel like the Pokemon Go ones should be underleveled. Otherwise you could just evolve it in the main series and you can't tell them apart.
