There Will Never Be Another "Big Buff"

This guy really did it all didn’t he?
Dustin Byfuglien, or "Big Buff," a player who redefined what it means to be a professional NHL player, both on and off the ice. Unlike some players who change their personas over time, Byfuglien remained true to himself throughout his NHL career. Off the ice, he was known for his fun, hilarious personality-a gentle giant. On the ice, however, he transformed into "Big Buff," a wrecking ball of a hockey player unlike any the NHL had seen before or since. #nhl #chicagoblackhawks #winnipegjets #dustinbyfuglien

When he repeatedly ragdolled Pronger in the 2010 Cup finals. Pronger had been bullying all previous opponents until he ran into Big Buff. This physical duel between those two giants pretty much set the tone for the finals, no more bullying by Prongs.

I thought my fav. Big Buff moment(s) were when he just grabbed a couple of players by the scruff and spun them around. Then, I openly started laughing at the 3:17 of this video, where he just demolished a couple of guys. So, thanks for the video!

Bro that's a serious understatement..its a scary thought to imagine what he would have been like had he dedicated himself to hockey year round year after year..those games of him manhandling 2 guys at the same time at the nhl level is something we'll never see again. 265 pound monster who could literally do it all..when his motor was running he was unstoppable, only problem is that it was only here and there..

He was already a menace, a wrecking ball, pretty good skater, physical and had a nose for big plays. If he dedicated himself similar to how we see Bedard do it or even half of that? He would have had the possibility of being an all timer

I saw Buff play a number of times in Winnipeg. What struck me was when he was on the ice the opposing team were very careful about not taking cheap shots on the Winnipeg elite players. They knew there would be a hefty price paid if Buff was pissed off. He was a force on the ice and much loved in Winnipeg. His Jersey still sells well in Winnipeg. Much loved and respected to this day. He’s on my Allstar Team of the great ones. Cheers Buff, happy fishing.

My brother skates with Buff every week. He weighs well over 325 pounds. He lives in Minnesota. He fishes and hunts all of the time. Loves his beer. Smells like it on the ice as well. Hopefully he starts taking care of himself.

As a Flyers fan I've nothing but respect for Byfuglien's game. He was as much a menace as anyone in that cup final. He isn't a regular d-man playing forward either. He was as good or better than a lot of guys that claim to be power forwards. I do think Ramsey was right putting back on the back-end as well. It was fun watching him, hoping he enjoys retirement. Solid player, good team guy, pretty different guy nit the weirdest but definitely a unique guy.

Hilarious/weird Buff story was him starting a conversation with in the pisser (of all places) during the playoffs when he was Hawk at a bar a lot of NHLers go to in Vancouver. He went off about how shitty bars are in Vancouver, and he’s probably not wrong. For some reason, I was scared. 😅 Almost forgot about that interaction until I saw the question.

Also, this may sound racist-but it is not....so far in the south a team needs more players "of color". Its not a bad thing. It is a fact of our civic life. the NHL can push back into Atlanta later. ID politics and social aspects are not bad if still a bit sad. It will happen and I suspect sooner than we think :)
