Avalanche Canyon in Grand Teton National Park could possibly be the most unknown and least ventured canyon in the park. Sitting at the mouth of Avalanche Canyon and below the Teton skyline sits Taggart Lake. Beyond Taggart Lake and perched high in the Teton alpine is Lake Taminah and Snowdrift Lake. "The Wall" frames Snowdrift Lake nicely at the end of this very remote and quiet canyon. Solitude in this magnificent canyon is almost guaranteed. Lake Taminah and Snowdrift Lake require a good amount of perseverance and route finding as Avalanche Canyon has very little defined trails past Taggart Lake. Expect wildlife galore as this canyon is thick. The bushwhacking required to hike up to Lake Taminah and Snowdrift Lake will most likely result in complete solitude compared to the much more crowded area near Taggart Lake. As always, an early start is best. The views in the morning of the Grand Teton, Middle Teton and South Teton should not be missed.

There is one hike here in Death Canyon Out Cascades. At the top of Death Canyon go up Static Peak, if that ain't tough enough go up Buck Mountain. Bam. It is An American Classic Hike. You want day hike go up the Sleeping Indian. Out to Elk Preserve up the dirt road at end towards mountain. If you don;t know Lander WY Sinks Canyon and Popo Agie River. 18 miles out gets you in wilderness. The pass over from Teton to Dubois is the Absorokas, they are a huge area. Both connect to Yellowstone. Teton is like the La Sal Range in Moab 30 miles or so high peaks. In Moab I go up to medicine lake side from La Sal UT then hit the peaks if in Moab I go up to Gold basin then up the creek to east not MT Tuk. In Teton if you go to the middle along the river flats it is great hiking. Great views or Range.

Seriously my butt would still be in bed at 4:30 am and a temperature of 21 starting out. That's why you didn't see anybody. Obviously though the best time to hike. Have you hiked any of British Columbia?

@@richbrindley8944 targeting Whistler area in 2024 if all goes well. Black Tusk is definitely on my radar! Taminah and Snowdrift are great alpine lakes that nobody will be at if you’re ever in the Tetons 👍🏼

Awesome hike. Flying in Wednesday for a few days at Grand Teton NP, then we go to Yellowstone. What’s your footwear of choice Matt?

@@TheMountainMatt I love my Altra Lone Peak 5 which are super comfortable for my wide feet but suck for wet conditions. I just bought the new Merrell Moab 3’s in all leather for this trip which are pretty comfortable but not trail tested yet so can’t say how well my feet will like them. I’ll definitely check out your recommendation too.

The Great Wall is dead center of the range. Kinda like this. Pick a ridge. Always at Teton. LOL. The one behind the White Grass Dude Ranch, same road as death canyon TH is a good ridge. to right of buck mountain side.
