@daybrink1267
@daybrink1267 4 жыл бұрын
@@collybeans586 I didn't have a short attention span, I watched the whole video. Going into it, I was worried that he'd say the blues scale because so many people fall into the trap of using it too much. Newer improvisers often just tack it on everything, even when scales like mixolydian, dorian, and others are better for blues.

The best part is you only need to learn 3 scales in order to cover all diminished scales. (C, C#, D) The key to finding the major chords in every scale is by going up in thirds.

Very useful! I always loved this idea and try to preach it to my metal friends who just spam a diminished 7th arpeggio up and down the neck in the same exact way the shredders have been doing since the 80s. I always try to present the facts highlighted in this video: the available triads and harmonies of the diminished scale extend far beyond just "a diminished 7th repeating up every minor third." Thanks again.

Hey Peter, I've been wondering for *years* what jazz musicians were doing when they start to riff with "that sound" - and lo and behold its the half/whole diminished scale. My grandfather, saxophonist Charlie Ventura, inspired me to get into music but I've never hit his level - but videos like yours help a ton. If you ever are playing in the SF Bay Area hopefully I can swing by!

Thanks, Peter. I use them regularly for warmup before engagements. Makes the playing far more creative and improvisation better with groups or doing solo work. There are others here who also appreciate your mini lessons. So much music so many possibilities to express what's in one's mind and heart. I enjoy playing because of the randomness mixed with the classical foundation. It's just plain fun....Bless you, sir.
