I ALMOST got bit by a Mojave Rattlesnake about 5 weeks ago, at Saguaro National Park (East Tucson) while hiking one of the trails. The weather was warm, the trail was narrow, and as I walked up on a clump of brush, out of the corner of my eye I saw something move. The snake was stretched out, didn't rattle, and as soon as I saw what it was, I jumped straight up. That snake drew back and tried to strike. It didn't miss me by more than 2 inches - scared the crap out of me! They're aggressive and tend to "stand up" when they're pissed. I did get a couple of photos, from a distance, of that snake standing. As the weather has gotten warmer, I've limited hikes to broad paths and trails.

When we rick trails if the path isnt clear for 5 feet around it we are always on the lookout. It's easier to spot when you look for stuff that is supposed to be there. Sometimes if you are looking for what isn't you will miss them. Camouflage at its best.

I was bitten by a rattlesnake when I was nine, I nearly died. I was an hour away from the nearest hospital and the drive was not pleasent. After we burst into the emergency room I passed out. When I awoke we identified the snake and found out it was a timber rattlesnake, juvenile, and the worst part was that it had no rattle. My dad confirmed that it was not a copperhead, and with tons of research we found out that rattlesnakes are actually starting to mutate so they don't have rattles! When hunters hear rattlesnakes they usually go after them and kill them, so thanks to idiots people are more likely to be bitten. This incident happened at Blackrock Summit in Shenendoah National Park, Virginia. It was the worst time of my life, but now I have an awesome story to tell.

So much hype here. Was hoping for a bite or two ? The most dangerour rattlesnke is the really big one. I seen Eastern Diamondback Rattler over 8 feet long, his fangs were t least 4 inches adn it was eating pigs, cats and dogs before it met it;s maker. It would kill a large person or a horse in seconds.

Mojave Green ! While quail hunting in my favorite spot next to the All- American canal in Mojave in the 80 ‘s , my buddy’s Brittany Spaniel went into a dirt mound opening amongst the brush after a Covey of Quail and bang, male & female Mojave Greens got him , we quickly loaded my truck with my Lab in his Vari Kennel and the Brit on my buddy’s lap w/ Steve blowing into his nostrils, I must have hit 90 mph downhill to the town of Mojave on a Sat. and rushed him into the Vet’s office there . They saved him ! But he had to stay for a couple of days and my Buddy had to drive back from LA to Mohave to pick him up . Wow , what an experience w/ Mojave rattlers ! John
