I haven't tried any on megabass rods & I know their all supposed to be great! This year I bought a Shimano Expired B med- heavy bait caster paired with a curado 150mgl, on sale at TW. It's been an excellent combo, unbelievably sensitive with the monocock handle!!! It's first time I can actually feel the difference between grass, sand, mud , rock dragging any baits on bottom.

Daemos and BB1 is a 700 dollar combo at TW! Efficiency on the water requires a minimum of 5 rods on the deck. Most pros have way more than that. Then factor in the guys that fish salt water too. No way I can ever afford to drop 500 on a MH rod. I have to spend more on reels in order to be able to use them in salt water, so I usually try to stay around 200 to 250 on bass or inshore rods. Some reviews on that price range would be awesome.

Thanks Randy. I'd like to hear video on rods and how each type of graphite rodd”IM6,IM7exc” actually help and how the weather affects the way they feel when you're actually using them as a tool. I feel that would help someone like me who doesn't have money to try things out but could buy any certain rod to use

a great rod line for budget anglers is the Shimano SLX line. you can get technique specific rods for 100$. i use the medium Xfast spinning for dropshot and the SLX A med/heavy Xfast for finesse jigs and texas rigs. you dont have to break the bank to get a quality rod now a days. i like my Megabass perfect pitch but for 100$ you can absolutely get a quality piece of equipment. Lews LFS reels are 100$ and ive caught thousands of bass using them.

Been using a SLX 7'2" cranking rod for years. It looks a bit odd with the broom stick thickness and small line guides but it loads up quite well and launches anything over 3/8 oz better than my longer casting rods.

Most are fast/ex fast which will cause a ton of misses with chatterbait and topwater and crankbaits. That's why Randy suggested a mod fast rod.

Thanks Randy for sharing your tips and equipment advice. You mentioned in one of your replies to use a 3000 series spinning reel. I’m sorry to be ignorant, but how do you determine the numeric spinning reel size?

It should say on the reel spool. Most are 2500 or 3000

I grew up fishing for salmon and steelhead in rivers out west. What a surprise to move to TN and see all the short little rods. When I asked at Bass Pro, the "expert" claimed longer 2 piece rods are weak....Really ??? Rods that catch 20 to 30 lb salmon in rivers are weak ??? Anyway, if you need to cast at distance, in these TVA lakes with little to no vegetation, and the fish hold far out all day, 8.5 to 9.5 foot rods will get you there. Lamiglass, Fenwick, Loomis, Edge, etc.

Randy, how many of the $20-$30 Megabass lures and $500 Megabass fishing rods would you be recommending if they weren’t sponsoring you and giving you the equipment for free? I’ve been a subscriber for a long while, and I’ve found most of your videos very useful and entertaining, plus I support you on a lot of issues. But “value conscious “and “Megabass“ do not belong in the same sentence. I say that as someone who firmly believes that sometimes the most economically sensible consumer option is to purchase an above-average priced item, because its quality and durability will more than pay for itself in satisfaction with its function and useful life. I think this is extremely true when it comes to baitcasting reels, as the budget ones at the very low, entry level range simply do not cast as far and backlash more often than a better reel. The extra money I spent on a Lew’s, and a Shimano baitcasting reels are easily worth the 50 to 100% premium I paid compared to some cheaper ones by Abu Garcia, Okuma, and a POS Kastking. I probably fish quite a bit less than your average subscriber does and don’t put extreme wear on my fishing gear, but I have been happy for the past decade with Shimano and Lew’s spinning reels costing $25-$60. Are the $200 and $300 models I’ve tried on display at Cabela’s slicker and 10 or 20% smoother to crank? Sure, but I don’t see how that translates into any actual advantage for me while fishing. Given that the only cheap spinning reel, I’ve ever had fail on me was a 30 year-old Shimano off a $35 combo that got dunked repeatedly in the water, I am quite confident that I have never lost a fish because of a rod or reel.

I think most would argue that a 7' MH is the best all around rod, but with so much fishing pressure these days, power fishing isn't always productive. American BFS is a great fallback to when MH application doesn't work. I'd say a 7' Medium is a better option these days. You can downsize virtually any lure and the Medium is a catch-all for that grouping. Why American BFS vs BFS, because to most in US, BFS is actually an adaptation and not true BFS. My most versatile rod has to be Megabass Bait Finesse or surprisingly as of recent, the Expride famous jerkbait rod - I've found this rod getting used more and more and not just for jerkbaits. I actually flip finesse jigs and such with it and am very accurate.

We can’t afford rods like you’re pros get I agree with others you need to look at your videos as if we’re not pros spend mad money on 1 pole . I agree that you get what you pay for .I’m spending on average 160 -175 for a great Universal crank bait rod from Denali you do make some good videos I enjoy watching your channel but sometimes you get a little out of most peoples price range

This is what is wrong with the industry. Is making out like these $500 rod and reels are somehow better than cheaper stuff. Like no no no. This isn't 20 years ago. Literally $100 baitcast reel today is equivalent to a $400 reel from 5 years ago. And rods are the same way. Sorry but in reality brands like Megabass your paying for the name. Kinda like with designer clothes and fancy cars. Even some of $200 combos from brands today are beyond excellent. And would last just as long or longer than one $500 rod.

Plenty of people that are not pros buy $400 to $600 rods. Companies keep making them... I happen to be one of them. And I'm not made of money. I fish a lot but in no means am I a pro. Just like guys that bowl a lot. They are going to buy the best if they can afford it. There's bowling balls that sell for $200 to $500 but most really good ones sell in the $150 to $300.

Notice he’s using a $500 rod that is gave to him and $150 real that he has to buy there’s a big difference I’m just an average working person I don’t want just one rod to do everything I’m at spin 300 on rod and reel, but not 500 on just a rod that’s dumb

Randy, I can't belive you switched tackle links to tackle warehouse, where it takes you 3 weeks get your order shipped. But that's really not it. So bait work is in missouri, and you go to tackle warehouse..... why fir few cents more on bought baits. Don't cut down forests, live scope is wrong , then u switch to the biggest tackle out let in wrold for little more money. Was bait work paying you???????? Up to you, but I'm sure bait work needed u more than tackle warehouse. Won't be using that link, I'll still buy from bait work, who ships your order in 1 day¡!!!!! Sometimes you gotta stand for what you belive in!!!!!!! Think I've heard you say that alot!!!!
