The unfortunate fate of the boot leang family, the shoe eagle or setiwel eagle with the scientific name hieraaetus pennatus was repeated in the 2022 nursery season, even though in the previous season, namely in 2021, he lost his two children who fell prey to the big goshawk.Frankly, I am disappointed with this incident.Since 2021 I have tried to follow and record the development of this bird.In the 2023 season, despite several visits to the nest, this pair of shoe eagles was not seen reproducing so they were absent in this year's season.
The goshawk itself is a predatory bird that likes to prey on the chicks of other birds of various species including the great eagle or eagle species. The goshawk, which has the scientific name accipiter gentilis, has reliable hunting skills by relying on intelligence to trick its prey. I saw the goshawk kill 3 chicks, and was surprised at the fact that the first one to challenge the goshawk stood just as tall. I'm assuming you saw this video.they scuffled, the Gh had his talons, first down low then readjusted higher. After a few minutes, the chic out of the picture, stopped moving, gone. Sad to see the others easily dispatched by beak. I guess I was surprised, but came to realize the chicks didn't have the fighting instinct or experience. They aren't entering a life of kill or be killed when catching mainly fish. I'm living and learning, and with this increased scrutiny we all have now, there are many learning the reality of how difficult these animal's lives are.

I don't understand why she leaves the nest. The dad brings the food so she don't have to leave.

pejantan elang biasa berada jauh dari sarang sama seperti red tiled hawk,elang tutul,dan goshawk jika telur2nya sudang menetas para pejantan tidak banyak menghabiskan waktu di sarang ataupun didekat sarang berbeda dengan bald eagle,elang laut putih,osprey dimana sang pejantan selalu berada dekat sarang atau bahkan ikut menyuapi anak-anaknya pada saat sang induk tidak disarang 😊
