It's the time when we feel most excited about pretty much anything in our lives, so it's normal that we focus more on that than on other music. Even though I agree with your opinion on a deep level, the fact that music has become measurably worse than it was 20 or 30 years ago, kinda makes a point for those saying music today is crap. There's still some good artists out there, but in general, the majority of modern music is written by less than 10 producers worldwide. Those producers don't focus on "good music" but on "popular music" and that's a vast difference.

I’m annoyed by people who don’t investigate the history of music and all the genres. How much death metal have you listened to today?

Lately I've been making a concerted effort to listen to recent artists, and I've even found some good ones (Courtney Barnett, Blood Orange, Waxahatchee, Low Roar, Porches, Saintseneca, Parquet Courts, etc.), but it is tough. I mean, the Mountain Goats WERE a band I discovered when I was in middle school, and them and a bunch of other artists I started listening to around that time are STILL putting out new albums to this day, so a lot of the stuff I've listened to in the past decade has still been dominated by many of those groups. It becomes a balancing act of still wanting to listen to those artists' new works and branching out at the same time, which is tricky, especially because trying anything new comes with the risk of not liking it/wasted time. The familiar just inherently holds a stronger appeal. But I'm trying. I stubbornly refuse to become close minded (something kind of funny about how that's phrased) as I get older. There's always gonna be good shit my dudes, even if TMG stop making music someday (really respect John Darnielle for having a similar attitude, especially since he's way older than me!).

matty it's more the fact I have no opinion either way, I don't know who this person is and I don't care about music all that much so sitting through a minute of someone spouting what sounds to me to be utter nonsense on a channel I subscribed to in the hopes of staying at least vaguely informed of social and civil issues on your side of the "pond" but usually avoid watching because the content is so utterly pretentious I can only stand to watch a minute or two at a time before just give up and resort to Google news and a few aggregators to keep track of things. So yeah your probably right I'm a horrible vapid person who is going to hell because I don't give a damn about Kanye =D. And yeah I know you didn't say that but it's annoying when someone takes what you said and just comes up wid a sweeping generalisation on your character, so you can consider this me a petty little asshole which is exactly the type person I am. =)
