LYRICS
I hope that our few remaining friends
Give up on trying to save us
I hope we come out with a fail-safe plot
To piss off the dumb few that forgave us
I hope the fences we mended
Fall down beneath their own weight
And I hope we hang on past the last exit
I hope it's already too late
And I hope the junkyard a few blocks from here
Someday burns down
And I hope the rising black smoke carries me far away
And I never come back to this town again
In my life, I hope I lie
And tell everyone you were a good wife
And I hope you die
I hope we both die
I hope I cut myself shaving tomorrow
I hope it bleeds all day long
Our friends say it's darkest before the sun rises
We're pretty sure they're all wrong
I hope it stays dark forever
I hope the worst isn't over
And I hope you blink before I do
And I hope I never get sober
And I hope when you think of me years down the line
You can't find one good thing to say
And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out
You'd stay the hell out of my way
I am drowning
There is no sign of land
You are coming down with me
Hand in unlovable hand
And I hope you die
I hope we both die

I don't feel like this is a song about cheating if that's what you're getting at. In my opinion, Its a song about falling out of love with someone in the worse possible way while still being in the relationship. the person in the song once loved this person, but every feeling of love has turned into bile and hate, something has gone very wrong and everything that they once loved about this person has just become more reasons to leave. Though they don't want to leave cause that would just be admitting to defeat, so they stay together almost out of competition with on another. I mean they could of cheated, but I think the title is the reason. The couple can't have a baby and its tearing the relationship apart because they are blaming each other.

@@darkmyro I mean I think "I hate our relationship I hope we die" is a bit of a weird message for me to listen to.
@darkmyro
@darkmyro 2 жыл бұрын
@@user-jn1wm3tb8v well as I said its basically an anti-love song. love has turned to hate, and its basically the person in the song talking about how much they want the other person to die, then immediately pointing that feeling inwards because the other person made them feel this angry and depressed. like there's a part about wanting to cut yourself so you can feel something in the song and not wanting to become sober again, to just be numb to the world. the song is about anger, frustration, and hate because all the love has left the relationship and those emotions don't always make total sense all the time. You can get angry and flustered and not really think coherently when your mad. I think when viewed from that lense it makes sense and you can understand where they're coming from. its not so much "I hate our relationship, I hope we die" its more " you've caused me so much pain that I hate you and I want you to die and that depresses and angers me so much I wanna die." they dont actually want them to die because of the lines later in the song about how years down the line he hopes they cant find a good thing to say about him and he just wants out of the relationship, and maybe they both do, they just don't want to admit it cause they're in to deep like they're married or something close. Its just that in the moment, that's all he can express. The song is like a bad argument between a couple. The kind where someone says the worse things to each other. Where They're just trying to say things to hurt the other person cause in this moment they hate them.

2016 was the worst year of my life. I had to euthanize my best friend, my 7 year old aussie mix dog because of the health issues that had plagued him for 5 years. My city flooded, and my home, my car, and everything I owned was destroyed. I was in my mid 30s, and I was homeless, posessionless, and at the lowest point I could possibly imagine, except for the fact that I still had my family. My wife also left me around that time. That was the only good thing I experienced in that time. I pulled myself out of depression and self harm, and from 2020 to today I rebuilt everything I lost, dropped 120 pounds, and got myself into the best shape of my life. Physically, mentally, and spiritually. I must have listened to this song every day during that time. If anyone that reads this is struggling with feelings of resentment, or hatred for someone that has treated them badly, please...... know that you can pull yourself out. Let go of those feelings and focus on yourself. You can do it. To quote Bojack Horseman, it gets easier. Every day it gets a little easier. But you gotta keep doing it every day. That's the hard part. But it does get easier. Don't let toxic people control you.

It's terrifying to think about how horrible it can be to share your life with someone who ends up becoming a monster that you want to kill, but it also makes you want to die. When you start something with someone, with all the love you have inside, and then things end up making you want to suffocate the person you loved to see sleeping next to you with a pillow. The person with whom you wanted to sleep and share your existence until the end of their lives. Ironically, until the end of your life.

John, I love your music, and I respect your artistic intentions. But, in my personal opinion, the vocal craziness that gets added to many live performances is a *tad* much. To other listeners, I respect if you like it, and feel it brings out the energy. To me, it doesn't.

Wow. Meaningless, hateful, blackpilled song full of spite and suicidal thoughts. That’s your entertainment nowdays ladies and gentlemen. Horrendous and uninspired. The laugh by the singer suggests it’s a joke maybe? I hope so! If you’re deriving pleasure from this song legitimately and without irony, all I ask is that you question what you’re getting from the source material that might be giving you this feeling, because I’m missing the point.

This song is about a couple who have been trying to make their relationship work out of spite, but are really in a desolate state. If you've ever gotten divorced, or have had divorced parents, there's a real rawness to it. And really, the laugh? You ever been so upset that you just laugh? It's a normal mechanism we have as humans, to make a joke out of tragedy. In the last set of lyrics: "And I hope when you think of me years down the line You can't find one good thing to say And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out You'd stay the hell out of my way I am drowning There is no sign of land You are coming down with me Hand in unlovable hand" It's anger at the friendship they once had, mourning at what's lost, and just being sick of each other, all in just a handful of words.

Art is subjective and maybe you cannot wrap your head around the meaning within this song because its not for you. And that is ok.

Love them but I didn’t care for this performance. John’s vials seemed rushed and much too fast compared to the instrumental. Also, the piano overpowered everything else. There’s some great guitar work in this song that you can’t hear.
