4 ай бұрынChilean-American blogger Gonzalo Lira, known as 'CoachRedPill,' has reportedly passed away in a Ukrainian prison, as announced by his family on Friday. Lira, aged 55, resided in Kharkov and transitioned from blogging to KZfaq commentary following the escalation of the conflict with Russia in February 2022. He was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in May on charges of "discrediting" the Ukrainian leadership and military.
In a poignant note published by The Grayzone, Gonzalo Lira Sr., the father, expressed his distress over his son's death, alleging torture, extortion, and over eight months of isolation. Lira Sr. placed blame on Ukrainian President Zelensky and criticized the perceived inaction of the U.S. Embassy, holding both accountable for the tragic circumstances. The grieving father also sought support from television host Tucker Carlson, confirming the death of his son in Ukrainian custody during a conversation with Carlson in early December.

We were dismayed by both arrests, by all developments prior to and following the latter, and were extremely moved by his father's appearances. Thank you, Mister Nation, for being the first (to our knoweldge) to respectfully and professionally break the news. We are deeply saddened, both by his death and over the entire climate of indifference toward him, what he offered, what he suffered, and how he ended. In our humble abode, he will never be forgotten. The oil candle whose flame is kept going and glowing 24/7 in our livingroom, is for just such considerations as our abandoned Gonzalo, and the loss of him. He is indeed in our prayers, as already he was.

There was something so bizarre how not only Ritter but a bunch of other people threw Gonzalo under the bus AFTER he was arrested and detained and could no longer defend himself. Even at least 2 KZfaq channels that have nothing but criticism and vitriol for Gonzalo.

RIP. Ironically enough he claimed he moved to Ukraine in order to escape totalitarianism in the US and western Europe. A tragic misjudgment. The US and western Europe have certainly become borderline totalitarian, but he went somewhere even worse trying to escape it.

Gonzalo was in Ukraine because he was in the middle of a divorce and custody battle. After the first time the SBU picked him up he was allowed out as long as he didn't leave Kharkov, hence why he stayed.

Gonzalo was a Brave, Smart, Honest Man!!! This is VERY SAD news! He got killed in Ukrainian jail by Ukrainian regime for telling truth about it!!! He got arrested and killed for being journalist!!! Remember what he said, if you see evil, you have a duty to humanity to expose it. Mr. Lira died exposing the truth, and in a world where most people cringe at the truth when it stares at them hard, he was one of the few who didn't. There's no doubt in my mind that he's in a better place.

I was so sad when I heard the news. My first thought was his father. His family must be beyond heartbroken. I hope they get some closure in knowing what exactly happened.
