Just wanna shout out @jamirswells6265 for the great video suggestion. This was originally supposed to be a more laid back ranking video, but I figured I do a little extra. What are some of your favorite songs or musical moments from the boondocks? I would love to know

5:16 I'm not sure if this is an unpopular take, but I actually think Huey narrating everything in Season 1 is a little much these days. I kind of admire how the later seasons didn't need to be as blunt with the point they were making. A great example would be "It's a Black President, Huey Freeman." It plays off the fact that Huey isn't saying anything, but forces the viewer to arrive at very similar conclusions on what the episode is trying to say. I feel like everyone loves the message of Season 1, mainly because it's super hard to miss. They tell you. I think great satire can make a point without the characters explicitly spelling it out. I feel like that's when The Boondocks is at its best, at leasy satirically. You're deffo right on the piano tracks helping elevate it those moments though.
@chillreview636
@chillreview636 3 ай бұрын
I can definitely see that point. A part of me might love the narration because I grew up watching it as a kid who definitely needed his hand held when it came to understanding the satire/messages of each episode, but I do genuinely think there's a charm and allure to how well the monologues are executed in season 1. People always say that visual media should be show don't tell, but I think Huey's narration in season 1 is a really great exception to that rule. And because they did it so heavily in season 1 (to your point) it made episodes like "It's Black President" stand out even more when they did the opposite and let the viewer figure things out on their own.

The Hunger Strike introduced me to Gnarls Barkley. I swear I listened to their album St. Elsewhere everyday for almost TWO MONTHS, all because of Go-Go Gadget Gospel in that episode Also, man, I wish they made full versions of Thuggin' Love (my favorite), Move Them Butt Cheeks, Stomp Em In The Nuts, I'm Rich (the way too many cars song), Eff Granddad, Homies Over Hoes, Eat Dirt's song from season 1, Thugnificent's instrumental inspired by Bring Em Out that plays when he's moving in and in that hilarious "I would just turn up the bass a little" scene, and others. All that shit SLAPS. It's so sad that they aren't full songs

I feel like season 1 music got our attention and fits the more thoughtful energy behind first season. Season 2 music is more synonymous with the tone of boondocks as a whole. When I think boondocks I recognize the cords from season 1 but 2 is my favorite. Season 3 was the most indicative of the time to me not as timeless as first 2 seasons. Crazy they don’t show Jimmy rebel episode but Django plays everywhere.

E.g. tha last Agni Kai(avatar), Deborah’s theme(Once Upon a Time in America), Guts(Berserk), Eva Braun’s Last Letter(Downfall), I could go on. Keep making art about art like dis homie.
