I made one of these as a kid after seeing it on The Curiosity Show. Had it for years. It you pushed it too far, instead of rolling back, the inside would spin around and the tin would jump up and down.

The big question is of course: Would it also roll back if Rob would snap his fingers 😄

I can only imagine the conversation between Rob’s great great great great etc grandfather and Galilieo while they’re in the stocks in the middle of the town square. “Much to the ire of the clergy, I proposed the Earth is *not* the centre of the universe. You?” “I put a rubberband through a can and apparently I practice witchcraft.”

I grew up watching this show in Australia. I used to watch it before Skippy the Bush Kangaroo every day after school.

Have we run out of episodes? Where's the " making a hovercraft out of a yoghurt pot" ?

To engage a young mind, I'd recommend that after demonstrating the effect (but not the solution), hand over another set of the individual pieces, with the challenge to assemble it. To try and fail and then be shown the solution would be instructive and fun.
