I remember talking to a guy when I was in college, wearing a star of David necklace , and I asked him if he was Jewish. He said that his religion is not Jewish, he's Christian, but that he is of Jewish Heritage. And I find stuff like that fascinating, because Christianity is not an ethno-religious religion, but Judaism is usually considered to be one. Paul said he was a Jew even after his conversion to Christianity, so, there's that. And different groups of Jews trace it differently. I know from my Indian Heritage, a lot of tribes use the maternal Heritage, you're considered a member of your mother's tribe, but that's not always true. I know some groups of Jews say that if your mother is Jewish than you're Jewish, but the problem with that is, how does that work for the Jewish priesthood which is based on descent? You know, Jewish people makeup a relatively small proportion of the world population, but my goodness, are they historically important. I don't know what I'm trying to say.

Nineveh was one of the most important cities in the Assyrian empire and at parts functioned as the capital. After the babylonians conquered it it went into rapid decline. The book of Jonah is set when Nineveh was still Assyrian.
