I think their whole deal is actually super smart on so many levels. Genius songwriting, like a more evolved Cobain level hooks, monstrous sounding low and heavy guitars, whilst smashing the doors in of other musical genres, and making it hit people in the feels like some kind of neo-gospel type religious experience, with a whole lore which echos of a modern gothic twist on the old Robert Johnson Crossroads story mythology. Like them or not, I say "bra-fvkin-oh!".

I tried three times listening to The Summoning and I always was like "okay that's cool but nothing special". Then after some break I give it one more chance and it worked out. They have a lot of elements I like. Beautiful and emotional vocals, a lot of prog stuff, breakdowns and insane screams sometimes. Not a fan of this R&B or rap parts, they are not bad but I would prefer some prog or heavy stuff instead. But eventually Vessel is one of the greatest songwriters in modern metal/rock, this guy recorded all but drums on their albums. That's impressive. But more impressive is fact that pop fans listen to band with guitars tuned down to Drop D#.

So, I definitely consider myself a fan of the band, simply because they make some great f'in music. I love the arrangements, the diversity, the vocals, the lyrics, the musicianship. However, I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the whole way they present themselves, calling concerts rituals and what not. It annoys me a little, tbh. They stay anonymous because they say the focus should be on the music, but in my opinion they achieve the opposite. Any regular band made of regular, non-anonymous people is about the music. Thats what bands do. He's called vessel so that we can put ourselves in his point of view... Well that's what we do with any singer, isn't it? Chester Bennington, for example, had so many fans because his lyrics and vocals resonated with so many people, right? And I don't think his identity being known stood in the way of that. For me personally, the whole ordeal with the masks and the lore, if anything, makes it more difficult to identify myself with Vessel and Sleep Token's music. I want to pay respect to real people for the art they give me, enriching my life. But if that's the way they roll, I'm not gonna complain. I'm a Daft Punk fan as well, but for some reason I feel differently about them...

I seriously do not get the hype. He hasn't got a metal voice, he is an excellent and beautiful singer, but he sounds like sam smith or bastille. If they are inventing a new metal genre like nu metal did, then cool but count me out not my cup of tea at all and I am into all sorts of music. Not sure if it's because I am an elder millennial? Maybe.

I think that’s one of the aspects people love about them The instruments and vocals shouldn’t really fit, but they do. It’s totally fine not to like them. Everyone has different tastes. Especially in music. I personally absolutely love them dearly

Metal isn’t all vocals. I’d consider polyphia and animals as leaders metal. Sleep token normally ends songs in metal fashion. And they can do metal very well. Just listen to the songs vore, gods, and hypnosis. Those have the vibes you’re looking for. Obviously the summoning too but I think most people that talk about not liking them haven’t even TOUCHED the surface of the discography. It confuses me more that people actually can’t get into them. This music pierces the soul and brings out the primal vulnerabilities of love. Everyone I’ve gotten into sleep token came back to me after listening to everything and told me they didn’t realize how good they actually were
