The Mysterious Mr. M, was the 137th and last serial produced by Universal.
Anthony Waldron intends to steal a new submarine invention from Dr. Kittridge while blaming a fictitious mastermind he calls "Mr. M." To further this plan, Waldron uses a mind control drug he has developed called "Hypnotreme." However, a mystery villain soon appears claiming to be the real Mr. M and starts giving Waldron orders.
Federal agent Grant Farrell, whose brother was killed by Waldron, is dispatched to find the mysterious villain and stop his nefarious plans, teaming up with Kirby Walsh and Shirley Clinton to do so.

I knew an old lady 👵🏻 in 1965 and several years later named Lucy Walden. We all simply called her Aunt Lucy and she always wore the same little hat. Her son was one of our ministers. He was very dear to us. 😊😊

Pity the kids from rural towns who came down to the city to see a feature and this was included on the triple bill: unlikely to get someone to drive you down, every week, to see all 13 episodes.

Just finished chapter 1... Really enjoying it! Except for the good guy's brother, all the other fellas were dressed and fitted well. Doesn't look out of place even today. Another thing that got my attention was the actress playing the sister - had to look a few times to be sure, but initially thought she was Martha Hyer (sp). A lovely woman whoever the actress is. Thanks again Looking forward to seeing more. Will be perfect for Sunday brunch time viewing. Comment for the KZfaq algorithm!

I personally believe several parts of this serial were taken and used in the 2003 film, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, namely the Mysterious Mister M, his delivering messages by record, and talk of ocean liner sized, super fast submarines. I might be missing a few elements.

Love these B+W flicks. All the scrapping scenes are so planned , like Batman earlies !. Without the zap, biff and ouch titles. Mock fighting, very skillfull. And all made in a Bryllcream factory?. Thanks all. Dave

So this was the last serial produced by Universal, as noted. That may help explain the ending. I've watched this s few times, very enjoyable and well made, but the ending seems very abrupt. The gangster Schreck (Jack Ingram) gets bumped off and all we get is a cop saying they fished him out of the water, the lab tech gets bumped off but we don't see it. The Lawyer Mr M just 'appears' on the sub for a quick moment and boom they blow up. All so quick. Its like they decide to wrap up the serial and shoved 3 episodes into one.

I have been watching serials for a while now and noticed the strange phenomenon of the hats that never fall off. I was thinking maybe it was because the guys would otherwise have to recover their hats before they ran away. I like your explanation better.

Yeah, these movies are basically all that I watch. I don't like the Gen Z zombie apocalypse sharknado nonsense. Basically I'm paying for streaming services that I don't even use because I can't tear myself away from these old movies.

A copy...which is illegal. Either return it and get your $$$ back or just toss it. Don't sell it. The purchaser can point the finger at you.. The studios really have the government on speed dial to go after sellers of illegal copies.

That's before my time, when you could fill a bag with 10 pieces of penny candy for that dime... but it wasn't a very big bag, and it's true we paid more for a under 12 ticket than a quarter, more like $1.50 matinee shows in the 70s if I'm remembering correctly.

i enjoyed it but towards the end i got a bit fed up of them going into every situation alone or with a woman tagging along who wasn't even with the police. just take another 40 cops as back up and the series would have been wrapped up at least 4 episodes sooner.
