The Mystery of Aztalan Mounds

Students in the Field School for Archaeology at University of Wisconsin-Madison are working again at Aztalan, an ancient mound culture located between Madison and Milwaukee. Professor Sissel Schroeder says the work is fleshing out our picture of the mound builders who worked here 1,000 years ago, and prepares students for careers in archaeology.

Check into the legend of Prince Madoc. A welchmen who supposedly came here around the tenth or eleventh century with thirty families. at first they settled in Cherokee territory but the Indians drove them west where according to the legend they merged with the mandan indians. They supposedly taught the mandan's how to fish and transformed them from a nomadic tribe to a one that settled down. Sometimes I have to think what if Aztalan was not a remnant of their influence. Something else I find interesting is that Wall that was rebuilt and the Welsh forts built from the ninth to twelfth centuries. They are very similar.

@@slipperysam1337 Thanks, but we were not there when everything happened. But the similarities are too much from the mandan point. Another one to look up is the Iona volcano which could also be linked to the Madoc legend
