In Mexico, legends swirl around El Demonio Negro, a 50-foot shark that has terrorized fisherman and tourists alike for generations. Is this an undiscovered predator? Forrest Galante hunts for answers in the most rugged and remote parts of the Baja Peninsula.

Mako does not mean 'man-eater' in Māori, that would be kaitangata. Mako is merely the southern dialect form of Māngo, a generic term for shark. Mako hold a special place though - not only were they valued for their dried flesh but also for their teeth, as their unique shape made them much valued and sought after ear ornaments.

If it was so lively back then I can't imagine how much further it flourished during the pandemic, I went to Cancun and Playa del Carmen months ago and it was all so full of fish, you could even find schools of Baby fish by the shore! On a different note, I couldn't help but be very peeved by the fact they keep refering to Baja California as just Baja, would have been great teaching moment for the big percentage of people that doesn't know there are two Californias, USA got the one that would be the Upper California and Mexico got the Lower one (very much the translation of the name), plus that region is divided in two North and South (and so the states specify), seems like they were on the south side.

The demon shark is absolutely NOT a case of mistaken identity. Locals who rely on the sea to earn a living are not going to see a whale shark and mistake it for a megalodon type shark.
@miniscool5613
@miniscool5613 2 жыл бұрын
The demon shark is nothing more than an alleged (and mostly second hand) fisherman's story to date. Locals are by no means infallible experts who's senses function properly all the time either. For all we know, the witness was the village idiot or some superstitious person. What we need is hard evidence not this mere hearsay to determine if there is any value to the black demon shark story. Up until now, there isn't. It makes far more sense to assume it is a case of mistaken identity with a large white shark, a whale shark or especially a basking shark than to believe a large unknown apex predator is constantly being observed by fishermen but never recorded.

Seeing the seals swimming & their shape etc, its so easy to understand why divers & people who wear the black neoprene suits are attacked by sharks They look so much alike. Ive seen so many wonderful documentaries about how many divers have made friends with a variety of marine creatures & its incredible to watch. Theres an Australian ( i think) Marine Biologist/vet who goes out on calls to disentangle sharks, whales & seals from commercial fishing nets & removing great fishing hooks from the mouths of sharks & other large fish. When people go nuts about the terrible man eater sharks etc the sharks are only doing what sharks do, as nature dictates. Ive seen so many divers remain calm & motionless when the waters are alive with sharks & pat their sides or swim with them Patting their sides & heads & Well, to me, they look like they enjoy it, Human touch is very emotionally strong & most animals eventually learn to trust & accept love & touch shown them. Wonderful film! 🇬🇧👧

awesome documentary but to every documentary remember they only can spend days to a couple weeks doing these documentaries when this Demon shark most likely has migrating patterns which answers why the sightings are few ( other then the fact that the ocean is so massive and only 5 percent explored). You would need to spend every day, trying new ways to monitor the ocean to catch a sight of it which financially, resource wise is not realistic. The methods we think will catch a glimpse of these cryptids are not guaranteed to catch a glimpse of these cryptids. when it wants to be seen its seen..... when it decides to come to surface not on our timing to find it in an ocean barely explored, but on its normal patterns which we have no idea what that is yet.

This one taught me things about the mako shark I wasn't aware of..it's the fasted shark in the world!? As well as having the strongest bite force?! I thought the great white shark would have that title..so if a mako attacks ramming you at 50mpr and bites you're not getting away!
