That long game is even more insane when you consider this supreme dungeon master convinced Marisha that she was dead, then married Marisha, started a company with her, started a new campaign her and managed to never cave in and spill the beans that entire time. Didn't drop a single clue to her. What a legend!

@@Mazurecki56 he waited for a whole-ass new campaign to take place in an area nearby, then had his god-NPC decide on the location of an important event so that he could bring about this reveal too. The machinations within Matt's mind are dark and complex indeed.

@@TheJerbol Vilya dissapeared as part of the background of Marishas character in the previous campaing. So Matt knew where she was since 8 years ago. I'm sure somethings had been twekeed (like the fire nature of Vokodo), but basically Matt's been sitting on this reveal almost a decade.

My favorite thing about Matt describing the moment of Vilya being affected by the Greater Restoration is how he, whether intentional or not, subtly evokes the imagery of the four elements. Her eyes have a flickering movement like a flame, her brow becomes drenched in sweat, her arms start to dig into the rock near her, and finally the wind builds up and swirls around her before she becomes herself again. :)

@@mykel3243 Thank you for that analogy. It gave me a good chuckle irl. xD Also, I agree about the vast majority of things Matt does while DMing being intentional. And even when it's not, he makes it seem like it, which is one of the reasons why he's such a great DM. I'm sure it was in this case as well, but just in case, I threw in the caveat for good measure. :)

My favorite part is at 12:39, when Matt reveals "My name is Vilya," there is a look of recognition on Marisha's face. She looks down to her notes like the answer might be there because she knows SOMETHING, but it hasn't clicked yet. Then Matt ends the episode and she's distracted by the sign off until Sam prods her back to that train of thought.

I've never played D&D and even the stories I love (from books, film, or video games), I've never had such an emotional reaction. Who knows, maybe it's more likely with a D&D story. But I'd love to be so immersed and I love their reactions. I've not even followed their campaigns. But I love it!

The easiest thing they could have done (if they had a cleric on hand) would have been to resurrect, using the leg as the body part required for the creature. If it didn't work, that means she's absolutely alive, somewhere out there, even if Scrying wouldn't work because they're targeting the wrong plane / Viridian =/= Vilya as the target of it personality wise.

@@petersenior5432 No actually, resurrection wouldn't be an absolute plan. If she didn't resurrect, that would mean she is either alive or it failed to bring her back and she is permanently dead.

Resurrect requires the body of the person in question, True Resurrection is required if you don’t have a body A leg isn’t enough to count as a body

yeah, they ruin the game for themeselves if they whisper to eachother, they shouldnt do that at all, but dont think they would keep it that way when things go back to normal for example in Stonejaw Strongjaw's battle, before the hole-epic "i pull my necklace and release grog" from laura, they started whispering and planing while others at the table were taking their turn... then pull it out like they were having a telepathic conversation or something like that. Don't get me wrong, the scene was amazing and the moment was great, but that kind of stuff is not suppossed to be possible since characters don't have a way to comunicate that kind of stuff, at least not time-wise middle combat, and neither while they are on another freaking plane of existence

My favorite moment was that Liam asking her about the taldorei council as a classic joke, completely oblivious that it was actually a whole lot more meaningful regarding her past lmao. It was like foreshadowing, but it was really all just a huge coincidence without the player's knowledge.

The first game was in December 2012, but it was a one-shot and Marisha and Ashley hadn't joined yet, so it probably took a while to build up the world. 6-7 years is a good estimate.

I'm pretty sure when they first met 'Viridian' the party even agreed how similar her powers were to Keyleth (bc druid). After they mentioned Keyleth's name I was like "waaaaait a darn second."

I didn't even notice it until all of this was laid out sequentially, but Matt did a great job dropping hints - Keyleth's mom, a druid, mastered all elements but water: in the "map" she demonstrates druidcrafting (the flower stem island), wind control (the rivers) and earth control (the waterfall) - in the yasha-campfire scene, she showed her ability to control fire (making the flames die down). When they met Mr. Evil Kraken God, she did nothing to help them with the water (I think).

Exactly. It was all laid out for them, but he worked it so seemlessly into the story it doesn't stand out. Like some of the best heist/whodunit stories. Those are my favorite, when you never see it coming, but looking back it's spelled out perfectly.

Ahhh, okay. I was confused at first, when Vilya said she's been on the island for 25 years. I'd forgotten how long the Aramente took her. If she'd been to the Water Ashari 4-5 years before Keyleth, then added the time skip between campaigns, then yes. She's been gone for about 40 years, but she's been on the _island_ for only the last 25 of those years.

@@nicholasfranco9003 aparently it took her a long ass while to get from the earth ashari all the way to the water ashari; at least between fire and water we know about 5 years passed and she left when keyleth was a kid. She took her time, probably got her own adventuring party and that led her to put the aramenthe on hold for long periods of time

@@monosito59 we will defenetly find out but if my math works she was instantly gone from the water plane to the island cuz when VM arrives at the water ashari it had been 4-5 years, then add the 1 year timeskip in VM and then the 20 years for the start of MN9, and this bunch has been together for about 9 months together so the math checks out for the 25 years she has been on the island

I watched the first half of Episode 102 on Twitch last Thursday, and finished it on KZfaq yesterday. Immediately afterwards I googled Vilya and wouldn't you know, her fan wiki was already fully updated including fan art. Y'all are *dedicated.* Also, boy oh boy do I wish I'd stayed up until two o'clock a.m. and finished the livestream.

I caught the interaction between Liam and Sam, "Thats long game..." They were right in the middle of interrogating Viridian and giving her the nth degree. I thought they were suggesting that theyre getting nowhere with this, and they should stop pressuring her. We'll figure this all out but "Thats long game..." Didnt even occur that they had clocked on to anything more.

I am so looking forward to the repercussions of this knowledge. It will take a lot of will power to prevent themselves from meta-gaming and some how let this happen naturally. I mean this cannot just go by without Keyleth being involved right? We all want it to happen....please please let it happen.

as much as we would love for keyleth to get involve that would imply that they know keyleth and have a way of contacting her; which they dont. Meta gaming they could ask allura for help but its a long strech! i kinda want vylia to start talking about her loving daughter and just watch marisha and everyone else (specially liam oh that poor man) just melt at the memory of keyleth

Erika Espinosa If we were to sort of force the idea, which I think wouldn’t be fair to the characters of the M9, it could still happen. But just for the sake of our own curiosity couldn’t the M9 say: “hey we know someone from Tal Do’rei her name is Alura Visoren she’s a high mage of the realm could she know more about your daughter?” (This is of course assuming they ask Vilya about her past and who she has left behind.) In my mind it isn’t a stretch for the the group to ask about her past but this is where the debate lies. Is it meta-gaming to ask Vilya about her past. Because really it’s only 2 degrees of separation between the M9 and Keyleth, all they have to do is tell Alura they’ve found this person called Vilya of the Ashari.

Keyleths backstory would have been in there from the very first. Keyleth didnt mention it until the Vassalheim episodes. But yes, thats almost a decade of plot, if Im not mistaken. 5-6Y of CR and 2-3Y pre show.

I accidentally looked at some fan art on twitter before watching this episode, and I thought I got spoiled, and spent the whole time watching being salty. But, I had gotten the wrong idea from the tweet - I thought that Viridian was LITERALLY Keyleth. So the surprise hit me in a whole different way. The whole episode I was thinking stuff like “Man that means Vokodo has the Spire of Conflux on his back somewhere! They’re gonna have to get it back.” And also “I guess Matt must have agreed with the cast that he is gonna play their PCs as NPCs this time around.” What actually happened at the end of the episode was a complete surprise! It was amazing.

So I started from the beginning of C1 and caught up to the live shows, and I’ve just kept up with it ever since. It’s such an awesome rewatchable show! It’s a lot, but totally worth the time.
