Elon Musk is one of the most powerful people in the world right now. He is the richest human on the planet. A willingness to publicly engage and huge entrepreneurial success have created a billionaire celebrity, with fans and detractors alike. Here, in brief, is at least some of his story- and myth.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Elon Musk. His business strategy is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of IEOR most of his companies will go over a typical analyst's head. There's also Elon's futuristic outlook, which is deftly woven into his enterprises - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Libertarian literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these ventures, to realize that they're not just profitable- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Elon Musk truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the genius in Elon's existencial catchphrase "I could either watch it happen or be a part of it," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Elon Musk's genius unfolds itself on their SpaceX launch streams. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Tesla tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

There is a great book from the 1990s called "The Honda Myth". It's a good book about how Honda Motor made its founder Soichiro Honda, to be some genius, that created a scrappy, clever startup. Only, none of it was true. I read that book many years ago, and the rise of Tesla and Musk very much reminds me of this thing at Honda, except on a much bigger scale. I find it strange that so many people need a hero to believe in, an illusion. Be your own hero.

I mean, my 1992 Rover 216 GTi was powered by the V-Tech engine, the Proton Persona I drove for work in the 2000s was essentially 70% Honda (and Lotus) engineering components, and then there is the infamous ASIMO robot from 2000... Playing jackass semantic games or just not understand how business works is what the first 5 minutes were and it's rather shitty to do. Also elon fired that engineer for fucking up a machine which was releasing toxic fumes into the plant and trying to hide he fucked up. The guy was poisoning the workers. You can even see the interview of the guy talking about it making the bullshit up then can read the actual recount and see the actual video of it somewhere they had to have ready because of the bullshit lawsuit the guy was trying to press for wrongful termination. I worked with a guy that was just the most naturally gifted narcissist sociopath I've ever met. Amongst his many talents for manipulation was a constant habit of putting himself into carefully chosen "difficult situations" and then going on and on about how hard he struggled through it for years and years afterward. At first it was like "Wow, that's tough. Good job." After a couple years it seemed suspicious, and after several it was just fucking nauseating watching him shop for the right situation to get into the middle of and then complain endlessly about how tough he had it, while people that hadn't already had the benefit of listening to YEARS of this bullshit were like "Oh wow you poor guy, you're so GREAT." I see the exact same patterns in Musk. I think his main motivator in life is being seen as great, and I think no amount of being that person will ever be enough, just like that guy I worked with. Up and up that ladder and still crushing people underfoot and using what they worked for to make himself look _AMAZING,_ and it's never ever enough. Think about this: When he's busy touting his latest innovation, are you ever in doubt that it's HIS innovation? Does he ever go out of his way to make it plain that HIS innovations are the result of hundreds, thousands of people working tirelessly to make these things a reality? Or do you always feel like it's his personal work because that's the image he's putting out there? This is a very Thomas Edison approach to success, NOT a Nikola Tesla approach.

One was speaking in awed tones about Neuralink, and how amazing its going to be in twenty year's time. I found myself recalling the words of the neurologist Frank Vertosick Jr, who was once told by a mentor of his, "Once the air hits your brain it's never the same." Looking further into this statement, Vertosick Jr elaborates: “to have the audacity to cut into a person’s brain without the slightest clue of his life, his occupation . . . I find that most simply appalling.” I also found myself thinking back to videos of neural implants from the 1960s. There doesn't seem to have been a lot of progress in this frontier of corporate colonisation: the installation of planned technological obsolescence into the human interiors. I felt rather sorry for these naively optimistic young men.

There's being naively optimistic, but there's also being cinically pessimistic. Every single technology we have ever created as humans has had the potential for both good and evil, and neural implants/brain-computer interfaces are no different. And, concerning the neurosurgery part (which, btw, Vertosick actually was a neurosurgeon, so he cut people's heads open all the time), I'm pretty sure patients suffering from conditions like epilepsy and treatment-resistant depression would rather have some air touch their brains for a few hours than go on living in immense suffering indefinitely.

One of the other reasons Tesla has so much money is that they sell their excess pollution allotment to other car manufacturers, ensuring that they have a zero positive environmental impact. A car company can get a lot of money from selling their unused pollution allotment to another car company, and Tesla has loads because their cars are electric.
@Chris.Davies
@Chris.Davies 2 жыл бұрын
The ONLY reason Tesla is profitable is from the sale of bullshit carbon credits. It is NOT a car company, but a carbon credit sales company. And Tesla is about to go down: their two-trick ponies are now being outdone by real car makers. Tesla will be nothing but a footnote in the history books. Sell now, and avoid the coming share price crash. The PE ratio is still moronic.

@tomfoolery5844
@tomfoolery5844 2 жыл бұрын
@@breadman32398 ya that would be great, except it’s not a positive at all, in any capacity, because we live in reality. The most money Tesla makes is by far from their sale of carbon credits, precisely because every single other car manufacturer buys carbon credits off of them. This heavily implies that the other car manufacturers would rather buy carbon credits than convert their whole line to electric. On top of that, it’s a direct incentive for any electric car manufacturer to sell their carbon credits, ensuring that oil companies don’t lose marketshare as electric car manufacturing becomes more prominent. Tesla’s carbon footprint is exactly as large as any other car manufacturer because they sell their excess allotment of carbon credits .If you don’t understand that idk what to tell you. This is all assuming electric cars are good for the environment in the first place, which of course, they are not. “Better” for the environment does not mean “good” for the environment.
@breadman32398
@breadman32398 2 жыл бұрын
@@tomfoolery5844 Carbon credits don't prop up the oil industry.. they provide incentive to all the other manufacturers to make electric cars so they don't have to pay them to Tesla. That's the entire purpose of that program. The more incentive they have, the more they'll invest in electric. And it takes years to make them, Tesla has a decade head start over the other companies. Better for the environment is the only thing we can strive for since "good for the environment" is impossible. Riding around in a wooden cart is bad for the environment since you have to cut down a tree to make it, but it's better than a car. Same thing with electric cars, yeah mining is bad, but it's much better than burning gas with a car for 30 years.

A few things you missed, mainly how his fortune is actually tied to Tesla's massively inflated stock and him running the company's founder out of the company, so he can call himself the founder of Tesla. It's important to understanding as to why he does the things he does where Tesla goings on are concerned, largely because of point one. Also there was that whole SolarCity debacle he's tangentially related to. Lots of boardroom drama during his paypal days too, but I need to read up on that again. And finally, Twitter has never turned a profit, that is since 2007, not since 2017. Lol. Lmao. It's seemingly impossible to monetize, but people keep investing in it for some reason.

Hey Georg, a few things worth mentioning if you visit this again: - With regards to Tesla and environmentalism, it's a fact that something like 16 ships output as much Co2 as every car in the world. Aka, Tesla is to make you *feel* good, not actually meaningfully decrease emissions. Want another fun fact? Nearly every single electric car manufacturer in the world uses the same standardized charging system. It's honestly amazing that that's happened, it means widespread adoption will be far easier because you don't have to retool things when you change cars, or keep multiple types of charger in public chargers. Guess who the only electric car manufacturer in the world is who refused to use the universal ports.
