Natural Wonders, Inc. runs a chain of specialized gift stores within shopping malls, all of which offer items that are intended to foster a respect for, and pleasure of, science and the natural world. Adults and children with an upper middle class are the primary customers of these establishments, who may purchase a wide variety of goods, from wind chimes and jewelry to telescopes and toys.
The Nature Company, which had its beginnings in the San Francisco Bay region, was established in 1972 by a person who had previously served in the Peace Corps. In 1983, the company was acquired by the CML Group, which had its headquarters in Boston. During the middle of the 1980s, the financially stable CML began expanding the network throughout the United States, with stores in states as widely apart as Massachusetts, New York, and Minnesota. In 1987, The Nature Company had 21 outlets under its umbrella and was making preparations to pick up its attempts to expand in the near future.
