Our mind is like a powerful emperor fully concealed in 5 pieces of clothing, says Ajahn Brahm. Only way to find out who the emperor is, is by removing the clothing one by one. Similarly we can find out about our powerful mind through meditation, turning off our five senses one by one. Ajahn Brahm tells us about the nature of the mind, how powerful the mind can be, how it can bring happiness and health. As someone who has suffered from depression for a while this reminded me of how a terrible thing the mind can be, if it’s that powerful then maybe most don’t know how to manage it. I came across this channel in part because I wanted to know how to deal with loneliness and his talks have been helpful in that regard.

I’ve been there, it sucks. I’ve found Ajahn Brahma very helpful, and also a channel called wu Wei wisdom. You might check them out, it’s like a combination of psychology and Taoist philosophy.. I hope you have a long life full of peace and joy.

From Amy SG Lam Thu 28May 2020: First heard of Ajahn Brahm when I returned to Singapore in 2000 after living away for nearly 40yrs. Have been following his interesting talks for the next 4yrs during my stay in Singapore. Now back again under lockdown, and delighted to still find his talks inspiring - thank you Ajahn Brahm. Only concern is that he sounds short of breath at times, hope that he is taking good care of his health.

What's probably different about me is that a girl probably won't get the feeling that I couldn't be happy without her. Which might be a cause for concern. It might make her feel a little unsure about the stability of the relationship. That I could possibly wander off at any time and forget all about her. And yes, I have found happiness within myself, so I don't need anyone or anything to be completely content and satisfied in life. So, I don't know. Maybe we can have a short term relationship that lasts only 60 or 70 years.

Dear Ajahn Brahm, the true nature of the mind is emptiness as Ajahn Chah has taught you. What you express is something of worldly Dhamma, not the truth in which the Buddha taught. All humans are one seed from their mother and one seed from their father. All humans are 50% male and 50% female, both, yet neither one. I am my mother and father, yet not either one. There are three forms of conceit, being superior, inferior, or equal. There is a fourth state. Transcendent. The honest true real Creator God is within, who created me, still there, now. The topic is the nature of your mind, for some people it is a fault finding negative mindset with every single thought, time to look deep inside! For me it is beneficial to let go of judgement, ego delusion and learn from Ajahn Brahm and not from a person with 6 pack abs calling themselves monks for their physical appearance to attract audience. Who is disrespectful and lazy here lol? Ajahn Brahm is so hard working and full of compassion for others that is how he gains weight by sitting so long giving many talks and answering questions simply being selfless not selfish. You have the total freedom to select your teachers With Metta

If you had known the basis of Buddha teachings.....you would never have put this comment. body is just a vehicle to achieve the higher goal...peace. Middle path...one does not have to get obsessed with any thing to attract attention.....As long as the body is healthy, person is active....Looks don't matter..... There are stories all over the place on how people who are obsessed with fitness...Have all material wealth at their disposal....Despite much "respect" for their bodies...End up in depression and drug addiction.....sometimes end up their lives in confusion.......naturally......A fat monk with clear mind and path is far better than confused hunks and beauties with sexy bodies but bad lifestyles and aimless lives...
@realtyhaven
@realtyhaven 3 жыл бұрын
@@bhartisingh3466 I am stunned at the stupidity and assumption of the responses. so I will try again... God gave us two incredible gifts (among many others) Your mind and body. Both, we must use at the optimum. Sadhguru is a great example. The body is really more easier to maintain. You eat right and exercise. Some Monks , Priests, Sadhus. Imams don't do that. All I was saying HONOR GOD'S MOST PRECIOUS GIFT!!
@bhartisingh3466
@bhartisingh3466 3 жыл бұрын
@@realtyhaven True. Both must be used to their best abilities to achieve the goal. Theravada Buddhist monks eat just once a day that too mostly vegetarian or whatever they get in Bhiksha. Like Buddha said don't focus on things too much that drifts you away from goal. Eat just enough to keep body running, wear to just protect your body from undue climate stress, so prime goal in Buddhism is not to be too choosy and fussy about bodily needs. Between body and mind, mind will always have a dominating role. Even assumption like the fat on his body shows laziness on his part is also coming from a mind that is conditioned to think that way. Any act has three medium mind, body and speech. And everything in the world first occurs in mind first and than gets translated into action via body or speech. So controlling mind is prime in Buddha's view because that will fix any errs right in the mind without getting translated into bodily action. There are people who are fat but still at peace with what they are and there are people who are always depressed about their looks and body. So it is not the body that is causing happiness or sadness but mental attitude of a person. Perception is seeded in the mind not in body. That is what my point is. Fixing mind will fix rest but fixing body may not fix the root of the problem. Suggest you read this section to get an overview or watch this simple series on Buddha to give you a fair idea about his teachings. Then you will find where his teachings differ www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/study/index.html
