Actually there's a word in Austria ''Gaudi'' which I can't really translate into English, but craic would be a good equivalent in Irish. @@dylanmccat5347 possible, but that's contested these days. The bombings may have been in response to Ireland sending fire trucks to Belfast. But yes, Germany did pay reparations post-war for the bombings. My great grandmother bought a piano with her money.

@@Rokco_org It was more likely due to how the British interfere with the radar range finders the Germans used. Essentially they used two beams and where they crossed was were the bombers should attack. The British worked out how to interfere and deflect these beams away from their cities.

I mean the Irish were being free rider on the British national defence, so you could see the argument that some in the British high command might want to let the Irish experience some of the pain the British were protecting them from. Its just as likely that the British were working as hard as they could to undermine bombing raids and where they might hit instead was a second order question they just didn't have capacity to think about. I mean they created an entire fake river Thames at one point, as London was having the shite kicked out of it.

Yeah, I went to a state grammar school with a CCF and I don't remember an armoury anywhere. Maybe there was, but it wasn't common knowledge.

The most you’ll get in a cadet force armoury are .22 rifles. Or service rifles with a sleeved barrel to fire .22 rounds , lethal up close, but not suitable for a fight…

I'm not claiming the film is accurate of course! @@Ul.B Okay, I see now. You meant that an English spelling of "Tschechowa" is incorrect, and it is actually pronounced as "kh", and not "ch" in the second instance. Now it makes sense. Going by Google Translate, the "O" is a bit too soft, almost sounding like Russian "Ё", and the first "Ts" sound is excessive, but it's much closer to the original than how Owen made it out to sound.

No Welsh nationalists cooperated or were even sympathetic to the Nazis. This is an old trope pushed around by some unionists. The Welsh nationalist movement, and Plaid Cymru, was formed after WW1 very much in reaction to the imperialist waste.
