NBA has gone downhill in multiple ways. The all-star weekend is pointless, the regular season is treated with indifference, the officiating is inconsistent and soft, and the players, particularly superstars, are spoiled and ungrateful. Too much money is being made to be acting as foolish as these stars do. The NBA is making more money than ever, but the quality is at an all-time low in several ways, which I will go into great and ANGRY depth in explaining.
Basketball is my favorite sport, but it's becoming harder and harder to watch year to year and not shake my head at some of the decisions and actions that are and aren't taken by the National Basketball Association. Will the NBA improve these issues, or will it slowly deteriorate? Why are you asking me?
I don't damn know. Leave me alone.

Luka and Jokic have both mentioned that EuroLeague is harder to score in. The reason is its game is closer to how basketball was played in the NBA in the 80s and 90s. What is happening now is the cause of the removal of the handcheck, Adding defensive three seconds, and the advent of analytics. Shoot more threes and remove the center from the paint, you get the amount of space teams get because defenses have to defend it when everyone on the floor can. For the younger people, this is why they say 90s defenses were tougher. When the three pointer was largely relegated to the specialist, the defense was relegated to defending the mid range. When you defend the mid range, the defense is closer to the basket and there is less space to operate when you want to drive in the process. Hence why the center was the focal point for so long. It was a relic of a time when there was no three point line. Give it to the tallest guy and have him throw it in. Now, you get more players doing more things which is great. You get people with more skills but it makes for essentially a three point shootout with the occasional layup/dunk.

I am a young bball player and I gotta say, the modern NBA is making me lose more passion for the game. It is like players don’t care anymore. Some young players have a one-and-done year and that's it. Some players are scared of social media clowning them when they should know they control their image, not social media. If players are scared of getting injured in the all-star game when they have amazing doctors shows we have a problem. Players should stop abusing load management just to get out of games. Who cares if you blow the other team out, you did your job well. The popularity of the 3-pointer makes me feel bad about myself because I missed it. I am more of a mid-range type of player. I hope people see this comment and agree with me.

I agree with you! How about aiming for a college scholarship? Would you feel more passionate about representing your university instead of a professional team? If you don't get a scholarship out of high school, you can walk on to your college's team. I would check with the coach of the college you want to attend that he allows this, and that you meet the qualifying criteria before you pay your tuition! I don't know if this applies to all college sports, but I know of walk ons in other sports, who received scholarships for their junior and senior years, for example. They had been able to demonstrate their value to the coach. As for three-pointers, I have a feeling they are easier for bigger and stronger players. However, technique and practice will go a long way towards improving any aspect of the game. But please don't seek validation from strangers online or on social media. The value of your comment is not better if you get 1000 likes or worse if you get three likes. I don't know how the algorithm decides which comments to push to the front. You may be lucky sometimes but remember that most comments have very few likes simply because they are further down and most people don't read that far. Whereas a completely unoriginal comment like "I am a simple soul. I see a video from this channel, and I click right away" is at the top and it gets 5K likes. Anyway, best of luck with school and basketball!

Well said. I grew up loving the 90's NBA as a kid, especially when Kobe showed up since I'm from LA, Jordan was as famous as Michael Jackson in those days, and my dad used to find tapes of 80's highlights and Finals games for me that made watching them so fun, interesting, and had me invested in shit that happened before I was even born. I haven't paid much attention to the league for about a decade precisely because the game got too soft, frustrating, and all those old rivalries and regional greats of the past have this present era feel like an entirely different game by comparison. This video said it all and did it hilariously.

I swear load management is the weirdest concept. Practically every time i've seen it mentioned involving a player, they end up getting EVEN MORE injured than the ones that play every day. It's like playing less weakens your muscles/joints/whatever else so that when you do play you actually end up more prone to injury because your body is not as used to this load since you're playing less. This isn't basketball, but look at shohei ohtani. When he first came to america, the angels had him sit the day before and after games he pitched, not hitting in games he pitched, and was getting 6 days rest between games he started but he was having injury after injury in his first 3 years. Then in 2021 (his last season to prove a 2 way player was possible) the angels had him do the exact opposite approach, basically no rest, play every game, and hit and pitch in the same game. In the 2 seasons since he has played 155 and 157 out of 162 games in the season and this season he has played 50 games out of the 52 so far. This also has caused him to have 2 of the best seasons ever seen and he is currently in ANOTHER amazing season with 0 injuries.

@@DaCommishDude yeah load management is just a weird concept. Or at least the way teams are doing it now since it doesnt seem to be any more effective than them just playing all the games, hell look at kevon looney. He's started every game for like 2 years straight now. Also if you want to watch some baseball videos to learn more about some of the players watch "baseball doesnt exist", they've got a lot of very good ones
@kushberry6679
@kushberry6679 Жыл бұрын
@@meetra5073 100% agree. The NBA has lots of superstars who sit out games due to load management, and I don't think it's a coincidence that all of them deal with minor injuries throughout the season. When you're sitting out games in the regular season and decide to play some games here and there and you want to be "100% ready for the playoffs" it just won't happen. Their body isn't used to heavy minutes and pressure, they're out of rythm and then they expect from their body to respond properly... I get that the pace of the game is way faster than it used to be, but at some point you gotta realize that running around for 48 minutes trying to score more 3 pointers than the opponent isn't basketball and as it seems it can't work for an entire season. Thank God Mikal Bridges is keeping it professional.

The biggest issue is they’re paying these players too much money too quickly and babying them. They have 1-2 good season and boom MAX contract, then they either not play, or demand a trade. They need to bring back pay for play, or non guaranteed contacts. Give them a portion guaranteed and the rest if they fulfill the obligations.

Correct. The “old school” games remind everyone what the nba could be, and keeps everyone coming back. Every now and then you get a lower scoring, defensive minded, gritty, hustle, offense when it’s needed type game. Those games resemble the 2000s, 90s games. It reminds us that if the nba took it into their own hands to fix their fucking league, then it could be the best sports league in the world.

6:02 - "Positionless basketball" says the same thing to me as the "Three true outcomes" in baseball, where every PA was either a walk, a strikeout or a HR. It was boring and nobody cared about the abundance of home runs, so MLB made drastic rules changes so other parts of the games would be utilized again and, what do you know - people are into baseball again because there's ACTION. We in Europe also miss the old NBA and are of the opinion that the soft mama's boys of today's league aren't real basketball players. None of them would last 5 games in the Euroleague, not to mention that our coaches would bench them in a flash or send them to the locker room even if their name was LeBron James, if they screw around or don't play defense for example. This guy is so right, there's no reason whatsoever for a true fan of the game to watch the regular season. Too much power to the players isn't a good thing, the game is above all. The NBA has two fundamental issues 1) It's pre draft development pipeline 2) Unqualified undiciplined coaching And both these issues ultimately stem from poor league leadership. Having a solid development pool, a league from which to evaluate and draft elite minor players who have competed against each other since 16 maximum, is the crucial element the NBA lacks. ( see Major Junior Ice Hockey.) And its well within their financial capacity to create such a league, they just don't. Instead they wanna emulate baseball and create a minor league, ok, but then they don't ever use it. And then you have unqualified coaching. Resulting in a lack of discipline and poor roster decisions, which also brings me back to the first issue. The NBA does have a developmental league, yet it is not utilized for this purpose. An NBA coach will take on a rookie who is clearly not NBA ready, throw him into the starting lineup, hoping he will magically breakout of his shell, all to the detriment of the rest of his teams success. A smart coach would call up a more qualified player from the G League, put said rookie in his place, and say, "See you next summer." Not because it's a dis, or he doesn't like his hair due. But because it's a wise personal decision and a show of resolve Another problem is coaches play their starting 5 way too many minutes per game for a fast paced game like basketball. Resulting in alot of late season fatigue to where come playoffs, you see alot of settling for shots and drawing contact because players are physically drained.

Then suddenly when the playoffs start, the whole team is suddenly healthy and ready to play and the rockets go from a 6 seed to winning the title. RudyT knew that they had a better chance if they were all rested instead of playing the whole season and being tired.
