I agree with a lot of what you said, but at the same time, I can also see the other side. Unfortunately, there are still laws and attitudes in many countries across the world, including the US for example, that are inherently oppressive of the LGBTQ community. These laws mean that members of the LGBTQ community are often not treated equally well as others may be in society. I am with you when you say that this community should be able to take a joke in order to be treated equally, I agree with that. However, in many countries you can even be legally executed just for being who you are. While I am a big fan of dark humour and jokes that make fun of EVERY group in society, until these laws and attitudes no longer exist, I can see how an argument could be made that such jokes only contribute to the oppression of minority groups in society. I am all for people finding Chapelle funny, or anyone who makes similar jokes for that matter, and I am completely respectful of anyone’s sense of humour, but I think sometimes it is important to understand that jokes at the expense of people who are unsafe in many parts of the world simply because of how they were born can sometimes not be received well by some.

There are problems in the LGBT and Trans community especially, that need to be addressed but Chapelle is not one of the problems.
