NOTE FROM TED: Claims made in this talk only reflect the speaker’s personal understanding of and business with neurochemistry and career performance. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com...
Peak performance isn’t just a question of training and preparation. It has everything to do with the neurochemical signatures in your brain, Two-thirds of people are stressed out in their jobs, just as many are disengaged, and 40 percent of people never experience flow in their jobs. The key to changing this is getting the right combination of neurochemicals. Dopamine for fun, Noradrenaline for fear and Acetylcholine for focus will do the trick. Friederike Fabritius introduces us to the magic of peak performance through the right balance of fun and fear.
Friederike Fabritius is a neuroscientist and pioneer in the field of neuro-leadership. She trained at the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research and is an alumna of global management consultants, McKinsey & Company. Friederike delivers brain-based leadership programs to Fortune 500 executives and organizations around the globe to transform how they think, innovate and navigate change. She’s the award-winning author of the book The Leading Brain: Neuroscience Hacks to Work Smarter, Better, Happier (Random House, 2017). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

explains so much...have experienced moments in my life where I felt profoundly connected and others of complete boredom...am zeroing in on the things that elicit peak experience and dopamine surges

A very good and substantial speech. Easy to understand, but I think, difficult to use every day. Reality has limitations...

Key message: Find the right level of fun and fear to get into focus. We need slightly higher level of challenge than our skill level to get into peak performance zone. Multitasking may hinder in keeping the focus.

What can we do when we are not in control? I mean, when we don´t set the level of fun in the task, or the level of fear? Do you have any advise on that? Thanks in advance.
