That's another problem with the majority of OLED screens, the displays are so expensive, sometimes it's more economical to just buy a new phone

As a Samsung S7 user, it's cool that people are still getting this phone. The specs, price, and avaliability of these used phones make it good as a tinkering device for playing around. Maybe things like dashcams, security cameras, or servers. As a daily driver, I have to be very careful not to damage it since sourcing quality replacement parts are expensive and hard to find like in the video. I hope Samsung phones enter display side on newer phones since the screens cost so much and susseptible to burn in.

Watching this on my S7 edge. So far I have replaced the SIM tray, mother board, battery and rear glass with seal. All easy repairs and the phone is still like new!

I have an S7 (non-edge) version and it's a darn good phone. Extra winner is that I got it for free and has only minor cosmetic damage on one of the corners, which I really couldn't care less about. :) It might need a battery replacement sometime in the future, but for now, I still get three days out of it (with wi-fi and stuff turned off)

Thanks for this video. I've had so many times that a repair doesn't go to plan, and the feeling of realizing something is broken after you fix it is an awful feeling. In a way, this felt sorta satisfying to watch. Keep making great content!

The s7 edge and the note 7 were Samsung’s two best phones to ever exist. No other came close them to this day.

S7 is damn good looking phone.

That gold S7 looked beautiful, even with being from so many years ago. That was a great design. Also, I like the panning technique you do on completed repairs. 👍

When you said that the device was lagging I knew it was the battery problem. My S7 Edge always gives me warnings that my Battery is failing and can't supply enough power and for same reason the performance is limitted, battery life has degraded to 4 hours of screen on time. I won't be changing the battery because I can't find original battery in my country. I have also a S9 Plus and my S21 Ultra that I use. To this day I think that the S7/S7 Edge was the best smartphone ever to exist.

The S7 reboot issue happens when the front camera isn't installed.

I’ve had just about every other galaxy phone back when I was a teenager, because my mom would get a free upgrade every other year and she’d give me her old phones. I remember the s7 edge because that’s the last galaxy I got, because my mom finally jumped on the IPhone train with the 8 plus(the phone I still use to this day lol) I remember the s7 edge being the absolute coolest not just because of the curved screen, but because her edge came with the oculus attachment bundled. First experience with true VR and it was wild. It’s crazy how I’m describing it with nostalgia when it was only like 2017 lol

Samsung S7's with Snapdragon do not have unlocked bootloaders but Exynos versions do, so American S7's are not as versetile as the version everyone else has.

Love the design of the s7 edge. I still have mine, keeping it just because I remember the chills I got when holding it for the first time

The lag can also be caused by a massive number of log files on the eMMC chip. It can also be BOTH problems...☹️

It's been fun using this s7 edge for almost five years, but it's time to move on. I'm switching it to Note 20 Ultra. I'm surprised that my s7 edge still looks like new out of the box after all these years of service.

I liked my S7. A great phone made great photos and videos. Going to the newer versions weren't that much better. S7 one of my favorite phones.

I haven't seen an OEM S7E battery with a date newer than 2017. I'd be very skeptical of a battery for a phone of that vintage claiming a 2020 manufacture date.

I had my S7 Edge repaired by a reputable company in the UK 3 times. I put it part exchange for a Note 9 in the end. The repairer told me that the edge phones S6 Edge S7 Edge & S8 Edge have a fault with the displays.

In the end of 2020 my S7 broke the display, I paid for a "cheap" repair, and it broke again really fast, so I just went and bought a S10, but I'd love to have the tools and parts to repair my old S7, I loved that phone a lot

I currently still use my active s7, awesome smartphone. Runs very efficient, still using the original battery. I cant find an excuse to upgrade to a newer phone. Other than needing G5 in the future....the only thing I hate is the burn in effect of the amoled screen, which I took care of by replacing the screen with a new one for about $80 us dollars....

I had a black S7 and its battery was swollen and it was popping the back glass little bit. The phone literally exploded while charging. Thankfully it was lying on a table and no one got hurt... So if anyone has a phone with a swollen battery. Don't charge it nor use it. Replace the battery asap

I'm about to replace the battery on my S7. It still works pretty good as a backup phone and secondary wifi device, but the battery is toast. I prefer the way it fits in my hand to my S9 plus. If I had to revert to the S7 as my main phone, I would not mind (once the battery is replaced).

12:29 as a correction, the Sprint variant (SM-G935P) is NOT bootloader unlockable, nor are all the other US carrier variants. But yes, the G935F (presumably with an AUS locale) is bootloader unlockable, though it should be noted that stock Android-based ROMs don't have many of the nifty features present on Samsung Experience/OneUI ROMs.

I still have my S7 edge. I just replaced it with a S21+ and I have to be honest I am really disappointed. The display doesn't even compare to my S7. I was about to send it back and upgrade but even the S21 ultra doesn't have the same quality. I'm definitely keeping my S7 around for watching videos.

Still using my s7 edge exynos version as secondary device. Samsung official rom was way too buggy and slow and caused app crashes..Flashed Pixel rom with android 11 and now works like butter

Used My S7 Edge Gold for 3 years Without any protection(no proper screen protector can be used because of curved display) untill The Screen Broke. It was usable for 2 more years if not broken. Moved to pixel because repair cost is nearly buying a new one. One of the best flagship phones Samsung ever built.

I’ve got an S7 I fixed a while ago. The fingerprint reader also didn’t work but I got it out a few months ago for the first time in a while and it magically worked?! Very strange

the s7 edge still is sleek and clean. though i am on a note 20 ultra 5g, which is the last of the actual notes and its probably the last samsung device to come with an sd slot i miss my s7 edge quite a bit

as a technician who works ridiculous amount of hours on samsung software and hardware, i have these observations that were not mentioned in the video: The sprint motherboard, being american is a model G935P. The charging port shown on the new screen installed is a G935F, by installing the incorrect charging port (even if it fits), the antennas are not compatible and will not pick up signal. Another observation is that on the last images of the phone, you can see he showed the software information where it indicates that the software installed being G935F. So how do it go from Sprint G935P to thos oem G935F ? Both stock firmwares are not compatible so he couldnt have just 'flashed' the OEM 'F' software. I think he just used a new motherboard to fix the 'rebooting' issue on the sprint motherboard. Love your videos Hugh! Im just a nerd who also loves this line of work.

I have an S8 there. The screen It's damaged. But is crazy expansive to repair the phone. It will cost more to repair it than the money I can ask for the phone already repaired.

Iam still using mine, the front and back glass is broken camera cover also missing and even the back panel comes off lol and also have two pink line haha dropped it uncountable times even from a moving vehicle but still works like a charm and i just love this phone💙

I have a fixed Galaxy S7 as well (water damage that killed the display), and I end up buying the cheapest display (and display only) that's actually an OLED one, which had a bunch of burn ins as expected, but it works just fine and the glass has oleophobic coating and the correct finish on the bezels. For C$65 that's just a one time deal. Also, if you would do the buyers a favour, install One UI port ROMs on those things. They give authentic Samsung UI experience and don't feel out of place on a S7 like some people might feel towards plain stock Android on a Samsung phone, all while being much more responsive than Samsung Experience UI.

It's always satisfing to watch a broken phone come back to life.

I have a galaxy S7 that al of a sudden barley gets a signal and now the battery only lasts about half a day doing the same things that used to last all day.

Not bad, not bad at all! I used to have a gold S7 Edge, but it gave up on me. I then bought another, a black S7 Edge, which I am using as a secondary device (this was to replace an old tired Galaxy S4).
