Annika the Amputee

Жыл бұрын

Hi Friends!
My name is Annika and I am an amputee. I made this video to tell the full story of how I got here.
This is a full blown recreation of my page. How many times am I going to say "This is it. This will be the time I will actually be consistent on making videos"? I'm not sure, but the answer is AT LEAST one more time.
Thank you for being patient and supportive of me. Life is crazy and I can't wait to share all the new things I am doing with my life with you all.
Have a great week and I will see you on the next video :)

I am one surgery consult away from my amputation. (The doc wants one more opinion even though I've already seen dozens who don't have any more ideas for salvaging, which I've been doing salvage surgeries for about 5 years now.) so I can see my light at the end of the tunnel approaching. I started following you and Jo to get my mindset out of the "I'm disabled now, my life is over." mindset, and to show me that, this isn't going to be the end, but just the beginning of a whole different type of journey. I'm a hip hop dancer, and I'm Latin, so I dance those styles too, but only as a hobby. But I did sports growing up and I haven't been able to do them for over a decade now, and I hope I can get back to them. Thank you for making the content that you do. You make the light at the ends of our tunnels brighter.

As a fellow Marine, you are absolutely awesome and I hope I have half as much energy and enthusiasm as you during my amputation journey. My leg was taken by a hit and run Toyota while riding my motorcycle last month. Waiting on my healing before I can start seeing my prosthetist. Keep it up, Marine! Rah!

I actually had foot issues in boot camp as well. DIs told me I was being a b*** too, just like you! I had surgery twice while in my unit. Luckily it was not as bad as yours and I finished my tour. I was not allowed to re-enlist and I got out with only 10% disability rating and the VA is saying they won't give me more. I am glad you were able to get what you needed while getting medically retired. It's a small consolation for losing your foot but you look like you are taking it well in stride. (Pun intended?) Love seeing the motivation! Keep it up, Marine.

Well done Annika, I admire your positive spirit and honesty about what you wanted from life. I love that you enjoyed the military (I served for 2 years) and understand what you mean by the bond you felt with your friends there. I too had an amputation, elected to do so after a paragliding accident. I waited 4 years before making the decision, way too long, but it has all worked out so well. Life is good and rewarding, very active and losing my leg made a big contribution to finding joy in life. I recently started riding eMTB and have found the freedom I felt when flying. Sport and being active can be such a big part of the healing process, both physically and emotionally. Good luck with your Olympic ambitions, I'll be looking out for you! I am an Ossur Brand Ambassador in South Africa, three of the other ambassadors here are Paralympian athletes too. From their stories I've gathered that being there is the most incredible experiences they've had. All the best, see you on the next one 🙂

Great video! My amputee little sis most def keep making these videos. I've been amputee since 2009 and they help me most def to stay positive 😊 I feel you on the mental health too! One thing I've embraced that helps me is medical Marijuana 😎helps with my mental and random amputee pain as well LOL since you're in Cali you could take advantage of that😊

Annika. Tou. An take the marine out of the Corps, but you can't take the Corps out of the marine. Dad served 22, 69 to 91. The lessons learned while in stay with you for life. Even as a dependent. Had a trans metatarsal in 06, trans femoral in 21. Still trying to figure out my new normal. You and Footless Jo jace helped me with this, seeing how you both adapted and overcame what lay before you is inspiring. There's a quote over the door at my PT/OT place, that reads. The impossible only seems so, because you have not faced this challenge yet. Believe that you can, and you will. All your life, you will be tested, and as long as you don't quit, you will do mazong things. At the entrance. Exit door has, That first step is the hardest. Nothing worth doing is ever easy, otherwise everyone would be doing it. We have been choaen for this path. Not because He tj9nks we can't, but because He knows we can. Don't just walk the path. Run it. Semper Fi Marine! Thank you for your service. And for inspiring so many of us.

Great to see you back Annika! I found your channel through Footless Jo and subscribed to your YT and Instagram accounts. Bravo to serving in the Marines! My father, brother, and oldest nephew were all Marines too. Semper Fi! You have been through so much and are an inspiration to so many! I am glad you are feeling better mentally as well. I have depression too. My mom died 9 years ago. She was my best friend (besides God). I think it is great you and Footless Jo are friends! You both are wonderful ladies. I am so happy you are back posting on YT. Amadaeus wanted to say hi too. Have a very beautiful day! May your day be filled with blessings as you have blessed us with your beautiful video! ❤

More accurately, you lost your foot and ankle, not your leg. Having a knee joint means you have control over your lower leg. Plus, you have a lot of leg length below your knee. Hugely different from actually missing your leg. I'm missing my leg from 5 inches below my hip joint and would love to have the leg length you have and be missing a foot. Your channel name is correct. You are an amputee. You're just not "missing your leg," You're missing a foot.
