Proximus was right for all the wrong reasons, he was power hungry, it’s why when he referred to the rest of the apes he separated himself and mentioned himself after as a separate being all together. He didn’t truly care for other apes only to the extent that they help him reach his goal.

His interest in the Roman empire is exactly why he was right about the humans. Expansion and conquests. If we get our intelligence back, there won't be any coexisting, it's expansion and conquests.

Proximus was not villainous. He may have been entitled or disrespectful but he was not a villain. Koba was a villain. A deceitful traitor, manipulator, anger driven murderer and liar. Proximus was just a sh*tty king. He had good, partially self-centered, intentions but lacked leadership skills and probably didn’t value apes the way Cesar did. That doesn’t make him a villain though. I didn’t see him as an antagonist. He just didn’t feel like one.

@@TheKingstide Proximus was modeling himself after human leaders. He was more like Julius Caesar than Caesar was himself. Proximus moves the way Caesar did in Gaul. He looks to establish a kingdom, keeps people in tight order, uses slave labor, and eliminates threats but he rewards those who follow him, gathers knowledge and allies for the future, shows mercy to useful “enemies” to make them an ally, etc. Proximus really was like a lot of great human leaders, Noa just happens to be the main character. Had Proximus had his way, the apes would’ve remembered him as the great king who established the first kingdom of the apes, making them strong and smart enough to stand up against the humans when they inevitably united and struck back. That strength coming from learning to build human things like guns , maybe even the tanks and other equipment from there.

@@TriggeringOpinionsandFacts Good points for sure. But I still think he was malice in his overall intentions. He stated it was HIS kingdom, stating when it came down to it, all of it really was for him and his pedestal. Narcissistic and cruel. I do see and agree with what you’re saying though.

Proxiumus Caesar, what a name for a villain! I think this is a character with a lot of potential as him twisting the words of Caesar but only using it for conquest and implied brainwashing the fellow apes into following him is not unlike real life tyrants and cult leaders, and the character design with the crown is just stunning and creative, and was quite interested in seeing him in the film, he did not disappoint, this is a villain who is smart, recognises others for how smart they are (like Noa) and someone that people who could follow, before realising who he really is but too late. Just wish he had more screentime (which is a similar problem I had with Feyd Rautha) and looks like he survived the fall. he's too good of a villain not returning in the sequel.

I was very curious about Proximus' origin - was he a lone ape that found Trevathan, who in desperation for protection and a better quality of life gave Proximus knowledge about ancient Rome, inspiring him to build his kingdom? Or was he already leading his tribe and took in this human who he felt could provide security for his tribe? Maybe it was Trevathan who told him about Caesar as well?

Spoilers but Trevathan revealed Proximus found him and healed his broken angels in exchange for Trevathan teaching him human history.

The apes would all know about Caesar since his words are passed down despite the troops all breaking off from each others in the years after Caesars original troop found the valley after escaping San Fransisco

Unfortunately not. If he had more time and was properly explored then he'd absolutely be the best. He's basically Caesar if he was a bad ape in power. Unfortunately, Proximus is a huge waste of potential in the kingdom movie.

That is one thing I felt about the movie is we don't get enough about him or his character. His relationship with William H. Macy's character and learn more. The film seemed to thrust us into the center of this world for us to put the pieces together ourselves in character relations and history. I still thoroughly enjoyed it, though since I came in with 0 expectations. Proximus was definitely a strong point for the film.

No because he landed in the water from like 1000 feet in the air. This is the equivalent to landing on a hard concrete floor from falling from that height.

I really don’t think Proximus was a villain, just a slightly cruel leader. And I don’t think he “twisted” Caesar’s words, I think that genuinely when things get passed down from several ape generations they get changed a lot

@@yes-qw6omI liked Proximus more than Koba because Koba just wanted to kill humans for his revenge, it's good, but the evil charisma of Proximus and that he has desecrated Caesar's legacy for his convenience makes him very original and refreshing for the saga. Another point in Proximus' favor is the fact that, despite being a monster, he was right about Mae and the humans.

I disagree with this. Koba is more developed character than Proximus. Proximus is a likeable character but Koba definitely has way more depth and impact on the story than Prox.

I was actually really sad when he died, I wanted proximus to atleast learn about all the human intelligence an seeing apes with guns (like koba) and use those tanks we saw that would be really cool. Imagine An ape controlling a tank (oh wait that alr happend😅) or apes using a gun. (oh wait that also happend😅) Or apes actually evolving/learning an become more smarter an use human technology.

Ape villains are cool almost always but I prefer my villains to be a little more equine, but with all human features below the head and well-known for being the lead actor in an in-universe sitcom and an alcoholic, and having a goofy roommate named Todd; do you think you could give us a villain review for someone who fits those parameters?

I think if you really know the essence of these films then you’d know that both humans and apes could be villainous. Human beings are driven by violence and fear, but so are some of the apes. It’s really about the threat apes and humans pose to one another and who is so called good or bad really depends based on your moral compass. Cesar believed he was good then had to kill an ape to protect his family. He had to survive so was that actually bad? Idk if any side is actually a villain. Everyone is trying to survive and protect their own which is essentially “good” or noble.

I like the two sides of the coin when it came to the words and teaching of Caesar who essentially became an ape Messiah, one side believes in harmony and balance can be achieved through apes working together one believes the world can be conquered through apes working together

Proximus was a fun villain, a real show-stealer compared to previous movies because the hero in this one is not a very prominent figure, he was intelligent and knew more about the world than Noa and that makes him interesting in ways I would've liked to see explored, but as much as I wanted him to have more screen time, his motivation was paper-thin, his entire empire fell and there's no reason for him to come back.

You can tell an actor did well when people side with his character. Of Proximus is a villain..he burned down a village to open a vault . What you think he was gonna do with those weapons ? Mae is not much better I mean who knows how many innocent apes she may have killed but that’s the gray area of these films .Mae’s not wrong for wanting mankind to survive but if she got the chance would she cage Noa and co.? If Proximus was more like Ceasar it would be easier to by the whole evolution thing but dude sent gorillas to burn down villages , killed indiscriminately and we all know Ape do not kill Ape 😊

It shows that proximus is the cesar of his time, who will lead the apes to a new level of civilization amongst the apes. He also kidnapped tribes to establish an empire with him as its king. Proximus is following in the footsteps of the apes predecessors being man. He is an outlier amongst apes as hes wearing clothing/armor and is learning from the past to establishes evolution. Im sure no other group of apes are using human weaponry nor actively trying to unearth it.

@@MS-ii1sv yeah koba transcended just as much as Ceaser did, because part 3 had factions who were inspired by koba to teamup with the extermination squad of humans to kill off ceasers people. So even after koba died, he inspired other monkeys to betray ceaser and their own people. King ceaser barely had screen time in the movie, and he was much more humble than koba.
