That's a perfect car to purchase dude. It has a v8 for v8 fans, exhaust not to loud and it's comfortable enough and that it has more assistant features than m5 like remote parking that is not available on m5 if ever someone has noticed..

Love the M550. Bought 2 (used) 2018s in 5 months because the first one was totaled by a red light runner 3 months after I bought it. Same color and same wheels as the one you drove here. Mine has a little less power than the newer ones but was the fastest 5 series ever built when it was released in 2018. 2nd one cost me $37,000USD. Worth every penny and more. Nice job on the review. What would be interesting are some head to heads with their respective M car bretherin. I'd be stoked to see an M440i vs M4 etc. Just to really get a better idea of what the extra cost gets you in performance and daily living.

Test drove the 2020 M550 last September and ending up buying it on the spot. One of the finest daily drivers out there- and everyone underestimates it until it roars past them at the traffic light. Thanks Joe for a great review!

I've got an x5 f15 with the same engine and I'd say this sounds just like it. I myself love the deep rumble of the v8 and yes it is very powerful, so this should be a wonderful car to enjoy. Actually just the other day someone else was driving my x5 and I was standing outside of it for the first time while it was going past me and wow it does sound great, such a deep rumble of power. A glorious sound

This is the car I would buy this car is a sleeper and as fast has hell and looks absolutely amazing but I would have a slightly different spec and modal deletion on the back etc. Love it Joe just love it mate 💙💙

Starting to search for your new vids now. Loving the new content, and a very nice surprise this m550i, wasn’t expecting this. In the past the model down from the m5 has always been abit dull, defo not this one 👍

Nice effort but about as much help in appreciating a fine piece of engineering as a dealer offering a 20 minute test drive in a demonstrator with 5 miles of fuel in the tank. Looking forward to a return to the usual well thought out detailed driving impressions that we get from a great professional like Joe Achilles.

Hey Joe, the M550i would also be my pick of the 5 series range. I dislike the new dials & also dislike the fact you can't turn off the speaker generated sport noises when you go into Sport or Sport+ mode. Some of us just like to fly quietly - LOL! But I love everything else about the 5.

Nice vid for such a short time. Trying to work out if I know the road. Now wondering if all G30's have rear wheel steering - I had a 19 plate 520d for a month last year and was surprised how well it handled a twisty B road and didn't feel huge compared to my two series once up to speed.

It's a beautiful car, but no 3rd pedal. I passed on this car last fall. Instead I bought an 02 E39 M5 with 28k on the clock. It is stupidly fun.

I fell in love with two cars: The M240i and the M550i

Thank God that BMW still build this type of car! Stunning.

I own M550i since 2018 and I bough the car instead of M5. I had each of them for week and it was actually easy choice to pick M550i instead of M5. It may sound strange for many people but u have to drive this cars to understand how good they are and witch one suits u best. M550i is relatively unknown because most pundits and journalists test drive M5 so most people know M5 as the 5 series to go for. Picking M550i it was best decision for many years because this car for everyday use is amazing and much better than M5. Only thing u may be missing in M550i is fun/crazy factor of M5 but than u lose other things having M5 instead. Well ........ I decided to fix the problems differently 🤣 I added some money to the price difference between M550i and M5 and this year I got M2 competition. I don’t think I could have better two cars set up. There is one more car coming in couple of years to make it three car set up .....M3 touring but that’s for another story 👊. In general M competition line up cars from BMW become great choice for many people .... or I am just getting older 🤔 As always great stuff Joe.👏

As the owner of a 17' 540ix m-sport, I thought it had the perfect amount of power when I bought it, however, I have begun to feel that a bit more power might be nice. Scary how a 4.6 second car just isn't fast enough for daily driving.

My question with these N63 updated motors and there has been many updates since the original but have they licked the valve seal issue ? And if so was at what update was it resolved?
