Today saw the arrival of the new Steam Packet boat Manxman to the Isle of Man. Way bigger and more modern than the Ben My Chree, the Manxman is due to enter service shortly.

I hadn't crossed to Heysham for over 20 years but at tt i went back on the Ben and the port and link road is so much better than before. Now the new boat is in service i shall go that way from now on. Sick of Liverpool and the traffic congestion.

Seems like only a few years ago that Ben-My-Chree was launched. I still have the Ferry Publications' 'British Ferry Scene' magazine with her writeup somewhere in the house. Have been following the developments of this ferry for quite a while now! Great to see a good video on her first arrival. Her giant windows remind me of some 60s and 70s ferries like Netley Castle!

Anybody else think the black hull should be a little higher? Nevertheless, she’ll be a worthy successor to the Ben. If she floats and isn’t a fastcraft, I’m sold.

There was a small byline in a Scottish newspaper a couple of weeks ago that my cousin spotted, a member of the SNP had admitted that it would be cheaper even now to order two new ferries from South Korea than carry on with Ferguson Marine but then they would lose the jobs, so effectively the SNP have wasted £500 million on a job creation scheme.

Remember going on the old one from Fleetwood to the Island and also we watched her goo up the Ribble to Preston docks to be fitted out as a nightclub

I will stick with liverpools manannan fast cat, but the new vessel looks impressive ,.my 1st trip would have been on the mona,s queen or conister or most likely to the lady of man,.trips were 75/76/77/78 and lastly 19,.there has ben 74 vessels in all including the manxman,.

I’m sure the Manxman will be a great success. To be honest I preferred the King Orry to the Ben My Chree. UK resident 🇬🇧

The Lady & her sisters were wonderful boats. So much atmosphere on them going to the TT. Cattle boat my Arse!

@@squigmcguigan8965 I can assure you in July 1974 i went with my mother and father from Belfast to the Isle of Man. We stayed in the Friendship Hotel in Douglas and watched the Southern 100 road races which the late Peter Mc Kinley won by a country mile. The boat that we travelled on was called the Lady of Man and it was a converted Cattle boat. It was as not a great experience as every time a wave hit the bow of the boat there was an almighty boom. I asked the steward on the boat was it safe and he told me it was a converted cattle boat, and if could carry cattle it could cope with a few hundred passengers.

You're a fibber. You can assure all you like. The first Lady of Man came into service in 1933 and lasted for 40 years. She was never a cattle boat converted or otherwise. She was the fastest on the Irish Sea...23 knots... and she saved 1000s of troops off the beaches of Dunkirk even though hit 7 times by enemy fire and holed below the waterline. I travelled on her many times and dined silver service in her dining saloon. Some cattle boat.

Hey, I’m flying to the IOM for the Manx GP this year. The day after i purchased my tickets and had everything booked and ready, I heard that there were problems with air travel to the Island. Should i be worried?

Short answer: yes. Keep a close eye on the airport website and Manx news. Air travel has unfortunately been a bit hit and miss recently.

Suggest Ben will step back from main routes (and be deposed from flagship) and cover for maintenance/breakdown on the rest of the fleet... Ben is starting to look her age, and creaks a bit so needs a rest!

I once got a horrible snub from a security guard at Heysham harbor when I was photographing the Ben my Chree. 👺Was he afraid I'd take the last photo before it disappears into the Irish sea?😂

Wish it did dissappear, what a wreck, and for the money you pay, honestly it's daylight robbery, the steam racket.. Sorry for the rant, but it's the most dearest stretch of water in the world... Grab a flight to the south of France it's a dam sight cheaper...
