Redesigned, reimagined and brought into the technological era, the 2022 Cannondale Synapse Carbon with SmartSense is a game-changer in the endurance road bike category. Cannondale has kept the award-winning geometry of the previous model, which mixes comfort with handling perfectly while adding a host of new features and some subtle aerodynamic tube shaping too.
The introduction of SmartSense sees the integration of an impressive lighting and radar system, all powered by a single battery, which is easily removed for charging. By working with Lezyne to create their SmartSense Foresite and Hindsite lights, and integrating Garmin’s Varia radar system, Cannondale has partnered with some of the best technology brands in the business.

Should have put a SWAT (?) Box in the down tube and made the radar and lights optional. Then they could have concealed the battery or made a more useful enduro bike that you can put saddle bag and some extra storage.

Seems cool! Let’s see how many actual bikes there are though. It seems odd that companies are still releasing new bikes at a time when they can’t even make enough of the existing models.

Ah, everything I want in a bike. But also stuff I don’t - battery, lights, sensor and the jacked up price. I’ll wait until the first revamp and see if Cannondale drops the gimmicks.

I need Cannondale to include anti-lock brakes, tire air pressure sensor, heated saddle and grips, automatic chain lube applicator, chain wear monitor, chain ring replacement alert system, a side mirror and about to bonk warning. I think it would really make it versatile.

If you are riding down the street and there is a car on your right or on your left ahead going diagonal to you and it has stopped at a stop sign, does the radar pick up that there’s a car ahead and turn on your flashing light so that stopped car can see you better?

Hi lewis The Radar is only rear-facing so would not pick this up. Does that answer your question?

Ouch, price has gone mad since the last version, and the exchange rate is transparently ripping us off in the UK! If you're buying a bike at the moment go used and go rim. You'll get a bike lighter and faster than this for under 1K GBP. Also, no one mention that it looks like an eBike... I understand why BSA is more popular than Cannondale's own terrible BB standard, but BB86 is fine and should be the standard - it improved over the ancient BSA standard, and you will need a bearing press to service your BB regardless.

@@xxiipp I have a SS and love it. But "better" is a relative term. The Synapse is better for some people while the SS is better for others. This is why we have options.

Light system is a deal breaker. Would love it otherwise. Love the fact that it has a threaded bottom bracket finally.

While the tire clearance and the standard post clamp are appreciated, I don't think it's all a win. Don't care about the electronics. Dropped stays are a styling gimmick, the bike could have been lighter. BSA bottom bracket means it won't easily fit Cannondale's own SiSl cranks, which are among the best available. Other publications have reported a 22 pound weight without pedals for the $4500 model. That hurts a bit.

Integrated lights and ugly exposed battery will date this bike very quickly. Remember the first Di2 battery? The lights are fine for a commuter bike, but not for an expensive, supposedly lightweight, road bike. Most, if not all, roadies will have their own light sets.

@@operator1717 it's not, and that is not its purpose. It also does not prevent beeing overtaken by a Mercedes SUV with almost contact to the mirror in the local park and recreational area, that does that on purpose to force you onto the split covered bike lane. But I am sure you have never used a varia, so I assume that you cannot judge or generalize. My recommendation; try it if you have a chance... I was happily surprised even though it is not perfect and also has some false positives (due to reflections) On a different note. Do you prefer Shimano or SRAM? Mechanical or electronic? Did you try the ones you are comparing?

@@operator1717 haha, point to you.... in that case radar might be one step too far for you. How are your headlamps fueled, candle, oil, or electic already? ;-) I tend towards shimano mech or electrical. They have their problems, but in my opinion/feel they outperform SRAM AXS on the road. But kudos for SRAM to push the technology forward. Shimano has been a bit slow on that field.... And SRAM is great for the simplicity/shifters. Maybe for gravel with a 1x setup

it's a nice looking bike alright, by that cabling upfront looks like a heap of spaghetti. Seems like they have copied the BMC Roadmachine which is an amazing bike

This is a meme bike for cyclists - Dura-Ace (top-model), external cables, and 9 kg of weight ) But great for those who have never been on bikes: - It comes with lights! - Oh, cool I'll take one. Just need to add flat pedals) Lol

the green color looks ok. but why is cannondale so bad on great color options? the blue/purble version seems to be international only? on the cad they have a cool dark red.... why do they makre such boring looking bikes. I like that they went with standards for seatpost, bottom braket, stem.... just the insert into the bottom tube looks a bit crappy. also the battery integration, not my favorite....
