I've been reading that Gen Z young men are converting to Orthodoxy first and Rome second. Young women are going largely secular. I assume the LCMS will be slow to understand this and respond.

This was sharp and beautifully put. I wish our synod understood this and, as the idiom states, "goes harder, not softer" in the context of traditional and liturgical.

You go fella!!!! Heh, yes you are hitting all the high points (low points?) of the "feel good" churches today. What you are doing is alerting the followers that there is danger in this style of worship. But, unfortunately, you are way late in the game. You do acknowledge that this feel good style is over 20 years old; but the pendulum has swung. The gestalt is "todays society". And once again, LCMS will have to play catch up. The pendulum will need to be slowed and then swung back to a better form of worship. You do have to start somewhere. Just be ready for the slow response from parishioners; because they have been marinated in societies slime. This speech must be repeated daily, weekly and yearly. It must be spoken in conventions and classrooms. And don't despair. There are folks/men that agree with you.

The example of "On my knees," was not only unnecessary, it went too far. The riotous laguhter from the audience and the smirk from the pastor was... disgusting. I had to stop watching right after that. I think that maybe a better explanation for the lack of men at church are their disgust at people who "play" at being Christian while being tickled by inappropriate matters in the middle of a church service (or serious Christian lecture). This can't be played off as laughing at a joke in a slap-stick comedy way. It was deliberately made by a Christian, and people thought that it was hilarious. Shame on this pastor and those in the pews who laughed. Shame. May they all be guided back to the cross by our gentle Lord for forgiveness of sins.

It was funny, and it exemplified his point about contemporary worship songs. Rev. Hemmer's presentation was excellent for more than exhortation to reverent confessional worship.

@@michaelkiener4138 Maybe so, but it was also lewd and presented as such for laughs. I don't think making jokes about oral s** is something Christians should be doing, much less a group of mostly men from the sound of the laughing, laugh at. Furthermore, although we can probably agree that the song in question may not be appropriate for worship, the Bible is filled with examples of men "on their knees" praying or showing reverence. Isaiah and John went full on prostrate in the presence of the Lord. Even Jesus was said to kneel in prayer. This makes it even more troubling.

@@michaelkiener4138 All of the things I heard before that reference made his point just fine. He didn't need to go that far, as I said. Kneeling in the context of a "romance" novel can have multiple overt sexual implications. He doesn't need to exemplify his point by making "humorous" allusions to sex acts. I would recommend taking this to God in prayer. Ask God if God is ok with that sort of thing -- especially in this context. Ask God for Scripture verses. God gives wisdom freely to all who ask. I can't tell you how many times I've taken things to God in prayer and learned.

@@mt-on4lt Very good point at the end! The Scriptures are filled with references to being on our knees in prayer -- and traditional hymns are filled with this, as well. It is downright terrifying that a "pastor" would defile such a phrase in this way. This talk or sermon was from back in 2017. I hope somebody has helped him see his serious sin on this matter.

I agree. I was thinking of sharing this video until I heard that statement. I was extremely lewd and unbecoming of a minister of the Gospel. The laughter in the audience displays how much we downplay the seriousness of the Christian's duty not to be lewd or crude in our joking.
