I’d get a soda blaster to check out your boat. It may save you hours/days to have the layers of paint soda blasted. Great project. 👍

Great to see another one Matt. Just had to do a transom rebuild myself. Nerve wracking but a great learning experience. Good luck! Looking forward to see how you get on.

Drill holes in the floor and put construction foam in to make it water proof and stronger
@MattKellyFishing5 жыл бұрын
I've read a lot about using foam, it's an interesting strategy. I've heard though that the risk that it gets water logged is probably too much to justify doing it (given it's effectively for structure, not for floatation).

I absolutely loved the last series you did on fiberglass boat restoration. Would you mind this time to share the economic aspect of the project, like how much the boat itself cost and the materials you use?
@MattKellyFishing5 жыл бұрын
That’s a great idea Tobias! I’m right in the thick of the project now but I’ll keep records and do a full video on it!

You should be wearing a facemask Matt when cutting into that fiberglass no matter how small an area you only get one set of lungs mate

Matt Kelly Fishing & Boating need to have a chat about a few little things I was planning on getting done 👍 the hardtop roof being the major project 👌
@MattKellyFishing5 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, best bet would be to speak to a professional. I'm definitely not qualified to work on something as critical as a hardtop - let's be honest, this isn't what I do for a living, so as much as it would be fun, best bet is you find someone who specialises in what you need.
@geordicosgrove20695 жыл бұрын
I'm working on a similar boat. I've had to rip up the dodgy floor and all the rotten wood in the transom. Don't trust any part of a boat that your unsure of. That's my opinion any way
@geordicosgrove20695 жыл бұрын
I've found the foam under the floor will have water logged foam. Which I suggest replace with empty coke bottles as they last longer and no chance of water logging. Even if 1 pops the others will be fine

hey matt i got three quick questions 1 do you leave your bungs in your tinny 2 what fuel do you use for your motor and three what fuel do you recommend for me i just bought a new mercury 15hp
@MattKellyFishing5 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, 1. I don’t leave the bungs in the tinny when it’s out of the water. If you’ve got a wooden floor, last thing you want is it filling with water after it rains. 2. & 3. Regular unleaded, that’s what I use in all my motors. Just make sure if it’s 2-stroke that you premix your oil in. I generally use Quicksilver oil (which is recommended by Mercury), you can get it at BCF. Many people use other brands of oil but that’s always worked for me.
@moretonbaymadness59695 жыл бұрын
k cool thanks for the tips hey I'm looking for some spare sea jay bungs have you got any I could borrow until I find some
@MattKellyFishing5 жыл бұрын
Just measure the diameter and head to BCF, they sell replacement ones there! No need to get direct from Sea Jay.
@moretonbaymadness59695 жыл бұрын
hey just curious what diameter is yours just need to check somethings

This really had the makings of a great video series, but the cloice of an overly-intrusive "techno" musak track is irritating and distracting. For the purposes of what is supposed to be a demonstration / instruction series, it is far more useful and instructive to use a narrative. Such a pity.
@MattKellyFishing4 жыл бұрын
You know what’s interesting - for every person that complains about the music, another complains about me talking too much. I’ve spent years trying to please everyone and it’s really really hard. What I’ve ultimately learned is each to their own, I’m really sorry you didn’t like the series.
