The New 35MPG 2013 Mazda CX-5 SUV Stars in A Dr Suess -The Lorax Commercial.
The new movie is based on the Dr. Seuss' book The Lorax who is about a forest guardian. A"Seuss-ified" 3D-CG version of the Mazda CX-5 showcases how fuel efficient Skyactiv Technology is good for the environment. It is the first and only vehicle to receive the "Truffula Tree Seal of Approval."
"We're proud to be working with so many talented individuals to bring to life this wonderful partnership with Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's Dr. Seuss' The Lorax movie," said Don Romano, chief marketing officer, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO), in a press release. "We take a strategic approach when it comes to partnering with other companies and with the launch of our all-new, fuel-efficient, performance driven Skyactiv Technology, this seemed to be a natural fit. The collaboration and integration that went into creating these custom-animated spots featuring the Mazda CX-5 with Skyactiv Technology driving through 'Truffula Valley' is unprecedented."
"The Lorax character's view of the environment fits in exactly with Mazda and Skyactiv Technology, so the two were a perfect match for a commercial," said Illumination Entertainment founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, in a press release. "By staying true to who the Lorax and other Truffula Valley animals are we were able to create a fun and engaging spot."

You're not the only one who thought so. I'm sure you already know this but not too long after this commercial aired, hundreds of people were pissed saying the same thing you did. "You guys are doing the same thing that happens in the movie. you take the Lorax's image and put it on the car to say it's Lorax Approved" afterwards the company responded to say, "We're not out to please everyone" so you're not happy with this commercial? that's too bad. unless you buy a car that pollutes the air at a slightly slower rate then nothing else matters.

What are you talking about. Toyota easily has the best. Toyota Auris: 51mpg, Honda Civic: 37mpg, Mazda 3: 49mpg. A Mazda without "skyactiv technology" is rated at 29mpg.

I feel like this commercial could have worked with careful execution. Imagine this instead: It starts out with the lorax objecting the car these guys are trying to promote, as we would expect. The person driving it admits he's right, but he also brings up a bunch of proof for how at least this kind of car is more environmentally friendly than others. The lorax hears it out, and though he still doesn't like it, he reluctantly lets it slide. What do you think? Just me? Fair enough.

I like to imagine a scene where the 2012 Lorax is blasting music in his new Masda, passing right by the 1972 Onceler’s house without a second thought, and the Onceler just sitting there and having a full-on mental health crisis from it.

This is dirty, even for a car manufacturer. Just another nondescript vehicle that will clog up the highways, hauling one person, an hour a day, just the same as every other commuter slogging to work. 35 mpg? Whoopee... Just think of all the extra space the driver will have in that big ol' SUV.

It's not about what I think about the Mazada. It's what the Lorax would think. He speaks for the trees!!! No Tree would be happy about ANY suv or ANY car. Trees would say how meny of us died so you could have your streets? ..........He speaks for the trees!!

Wow, the irony in this ad is honestly hilarious, and the movie itself failed to spread a proper environmental message. I thought, hmm, maybe the car is electric, but no. It’s a freaking fossil fuel car. Heck, the car has WORSE emissions than regular fossil fuel cars. Good job Illumination for making TONS of money on a VERY SERIOUS issue, and completely destroying Dr. Seuss’ original message, AND promoting air pollution.

The worst part is, you'd think this was an electric car or at least a hybrid, right? It'd still be pretty bad, but at the very least it'd make *some* sense. Nope. Just a regular old gas vehicle.
