Our family visited Kyoto in January this year. We love being there, and have visited 10times over the past 37 years. This time we brought our grown up grandchildren and we all wished that we had a house there to stay for much longer visits and that we could be there more often. I like the TAX increase it will force Cities to either remove the house or find a buyer. It will also make it easier for a foreigner to buy a house if they pay the tax lien.

Thank you for the akiya news, and congrats to you and your family, the personal news was all quite good! Your channel has really inspired me! I am putting myself on a roughly five year plan and timeline to gain PR in Japan, and somewhere between here and there (probably 3-4 years from now) I hope to buy and restore a Meji era or earlier kominka. Right now I think the only reasonable way for me to gain PR will be a startup or investment visa. I think I have a good idea for a startup that would benefit from being based in Japan. I just wanted to say thank you, your channel is very inspiring and motivating for me.

This is interesting news! It looks like the government is noticing that it has a problem AND a potential solution in selling akiya and then taxing them.

We are now enjoying a return visit to Kyoto and will be trying a kyōmachiya to experience this housing style that we admire. We do hope that more of these houses are preserved and continue to serve as lovely homes for individuals and families. We wondered if you will be conducting the tour of your machiya work in the next week or two. Apart from that, it would also be of interest to meet with you about possible consulting you might do if we pursued a machiya project for personal residential use. We hope that you inspire more people in Japan (and elsewhere) to consider machiya living and keeping these historical assets part of Japan’s housing stock.

I think that loan information in not relevant to foreigners as they have 0% chance of securing a loan 😂😂😂
