I think he wanted the levels to be like the original game, where you had all the puzzles and side things to do, but in the new version of lego the open hub areas serve the same point that the levels did. And the "levels" in this game are just streamlined follow the marker content.

Yeah, but no though. A level had design and puzzle structure. It actually took effort and had a level of challenge to them. The open world 'challenges' are not a substitute to actual concise gameplay. The missions are barely anything. its bizarre. You can have open world and still have concise level design and challenge. Ratchet and Clank comes to mind. The new God of War. its the absence of engagement thats whats wrong here. Like, theres a deeper flaw with getting to the end of Episode One and it feels like you've barely played a half of a level from the original game. And spend the rest of the time fucking around in hubs.

Theres also the fact that they hype up this new combat system, But theres only like 3-4 very specific areas where you ever actually get to use them. OG lego almost always had you fighting something. Now its like a whole prescripted event.

Carson actually has dementia, he played through the trade dispute level at the start, the naboo level, the fish level, the tatooine level, the podrace level, and then the maul level. But he kept saying that there was only the fish, the podrace, and maul.

those are the only levels, the other ones are mini levels but more just story progress which is why there's no minikits or true jedi in them etc.

I think it has to do with the game having more "canon" levels (because Disney) to fit the "canon". Back then had just fun filler levels, that could in theory all makes sense. So I understand where he's coming from.

So does Carson not understand how open world works? He just keeps complaining tjat he has to go to the missions instead of events just inexplicably happening around him.

I mean I think about episode one and all I think of is submarine, pod race, and darth maul, the rest is how much I hate like 60% of this film and it really is the same thing with episode 2 bounty hunter chase jango fet chase and colluseum fight but episode 3 4 5 and 6 are all great the whole way through then the sequels are the same as episode 1 and 2 except for the rise of Skywalker which should burn in a fire

Those are the best games. If I want a challenge then life has plenty ready for me. Games that are meant to chill like this one are the best.

I swear to god when you’re a kid, all those violent and bloody games look so fun to play. But when you finally get to play them, you do basically do everything you wanted to do in a matter of minutes. All the games that are meant to be children-directed nowadays are the most fun, and usually have the best replay value. Shits *wack*

Feels less like cool star wars for kids and more like Fisher Price babysitter simulator. Theres 'its easy for little kids' and then theres gameplay that might as well not exist because it can be played with your eyes closed. Best example in this is that pretty much all platforming is done via an 'A' prompt snapping your character to the next point. The 'A' press is the absolute least bit of engagement they can have the player do before the game just literally plays itself. The old Lego formula was pretty far from this.
