I finally got my hands on the Megabass sleeper gill Swimbait and this Bait gets bit. I like to spend time with lures before I form my own opinion on them. So in this video you will see me highlight the differences the sleeper gill has to offer. Also you will see me fish it in real world situations. It is similar to the Megabass dark sleeper but has its own space. One of the main thing that sets this bait apart from other Swimbaits is its versatility. This is a bait I'm not going to be leaving home without. You can fish this Swimbait in heavy cover, as well as fish it like a traditional jig. There is a ton of colors to pick from to cover every body of water. I had a blast catching largemouth bass with the sleeper gill. Yes it lives up to the hype. Megabass never fails to produce baits that change the game and set the industry standard. This paddle tail weedless Swimbait is special.

I've caught 2 pike over 25" and at least 10 largemouth on the SAME sleeper gill, no joke. The bait is only missing an eye, its not all torn up and the hook guard is still good. I know this is not the same experience for everyone but these things seem to be pretty durable and the bass absolutely choke the bait. Also I get bites on this when nothing else works. I mainly work it slow with a steady retrieve with my rod tip down just swimming it.

Any soft bodied Swimbait isn't made to last forever. Softer baits tend to have more action. There always has to be a some sort of give to get. I had the same experience the bass love this thing as much as I do lol. Confidence is a huge thing and there's something special about this sleeper gill, no doubt. You can feel it before you even cast it. That's how I got most of my bites as well just a steady slow swim.

Hey so love this review but heard your drag slip on hook sets if you put your thumb on the spool and add pressure your drag won’t slip💯% of the time 🔥review though 💯

Thanks for pointing that out. I gotta try and get make myself do that more lol. One more thing to remember, lol. It seems to do that will hard hooklets on the majority of my reels. I notice it more with fluorocarbon for some reason.

I just started using Dark Sleepers and holy crap do they get bit consistently. I've got a few Sleeper Gills coming in the mail, can't wait to bust them open. My single Dark Sleeper has probably caught me 25+ largemouth and it's still going. Of course, it no longer has eyes and looks beat up as hell, but it still works! And yea, there's something special about that tail. It goes a hundred miles an hour.

Nice. I also am a big fan of the dark sleeper. The sleeper gill in my opinion is just as effective. Yea the eyes fall out for sure on the sleeper gill, but it still gets bit. Megabass is where it's at!

Put a little dab of super glue on each eye and they will never fall off. I use Zap-a-Gap and it does not harm the soft plastic. TIGHT LINES!

Awesome, they are tough to get your hands on. I like the size, I think it draws fish of many sizes. I am curious if they are going to expand on the size and weight range of the Sleeper Gill.

The only thing about the sleeper gill is its a little heavy your gonna want a heavy action rod for those big baits

I felt the same at first but I feel like they got the weight just right. I think the 3/4 wight has a lot to do with the bait on the fall and getting that tail action going immediately. Probably can get away with throwing it on a jig rod if you don't have a smaller Swimbait rod. When fishing it you don't even notice the weight. I fish it on a Shimano Curado 7' 5" Heavy and it feels perfect.

Is this sleeper gill more weedless than dark sleeper brother?

I would say it's about the same. The Gill has the bigger hook but it is also angled down slightly to help keep it weedless. With the gill being a bit bigger of a profile all together. Physics come into play, but these baits are designed to fish around cover.

So the technique to fish them is to hold the rod up at like...10 o clock and then raise it to 12? Sorry just trying to clarify because I see a lot of people doing that and I am not sure what it is

So, that technique is one way of fishing it. A straight slow retrieve/swim of the bait is also a deadly way to catch them on the Sleeper Gill. The technique you are referring to you is fishing it like a jig. This is also a great way to present this Swimbait to the bass and get bites. So you raise your rod tip up, lifting the bait of the bottom, then let it fall back down reel up slack and repeat. If you add in some hops with the rod tip, this is very similar to fishing it like a texas rig/jig. On this bite you will feel a hard thumb reel up slack and set the hook. I hope that helped you out. There are a few different ways that you can fish this bait because of its versatility. These are my 2 favorite ways of fishing the sleeper gill.

It was fine. This particular outting, there are a lot of smaller sized bass in that pond. So, I think a couple that I missed was because of that. I Actually had some of them come back and get it though. The big one stayed pinned no issues!
