Picture my surprise when hunting for the latest movie trailers, to now only find a new, original production from Paramount Pictures, but to learn that the entire movie is already out! And not just out, it released 2 DAYS after said trailer. Only 1 trailer. Only a limited release. Big names like Keke Palmer and Michael Cera attached, and yet practically no marketing going on. What's that all about? Sounds to me like a corporate assassination. A movie shoved under the rug. This is Under The Board. This, is The New Movie Paramount Doesn't Want You To See...

...Hm. Very sad to see something so underappreciated. But also, it does look to be a jukebox musical with a pretty cliche plot. Paramount disappointing us all around really..

Really hate to see how studios keep throwing original ideas under the bus after having animators work hard on it. Like I get that they want to make excuses as to why they aren’t making completely original movies but doesn’t make it less infuriating

@@user-x7dc2pq7n i mean it is also an excuse when they fail to market any original films, with most studios at an absolute loss as to how to convince ppl to even watch an original movie anymore unless its a big director. Head of Paramount animation said they are no longer funding original animated films because it's too much of a financial risk. "We’re not going to release an expensive original animated movie and just pray people will come." They make it overly expensive the same way Disney/Pixar are spending way too much time on the technical side than the writing, ballooning average animation films to like 200 mil. Because apparently thats the only thing they see being succesful, every studio is desperately looking for any place to spend more extraordinary amounts of money except the writing department.

2 days. They waited until 2 DAYS before release to start advertising. This is why big studios think animation, especially original properties, aren't profitable, because they don't put in the effort to market it. That royally sucks, and hurts not only the animators, but Hollywood as a whole. The disrespect must end!

This almost gives me Turbo vibes with the way they want you to forget it exists. For real though it will never fail to infuriate me that corporations and CEOs preach about how unprofitable animation is but then self sabotage it to make it so it's not profitable at all they really just want an excuse to not bother trying to be creative and paying people to be creative when they can just rehash an old IP

I’ve actually seen Under the Boardwalk on opening day in theaters. Yeah there were things I didn’t like about it, such as some tired cliches (like how the girl crab Ramona is told to be in love with a sea crab that she’s not interested in), the lame antagonist voiced by Russell Brand, and Michael Cera’s singing not feeling like singing. But overall, the movie was pretty enjoyable and competently made. The song numbers were fun to watch, the creativity with the different shells the crabs wear was cool, and it even had a character named Shelly (the girl crab that Ramona danced with in the trailer) who is deaf and uses ASL to talk to others. When I watched this movie in the morning, there was a dad with 2 kids, and they seemingly liked it. I checked the Saturday and Sunday night seating charts, and they were decently crowded for a movie playing in a small auditorium and had almost no advertising.

I'm okay with the cliches, it's better than seeing the overly sexualized Disney princess be rescued by a big strong man all the time. I also like how it's not the "shy awkward girl vs mean girl" type of story, either. I'm a girl, so that's how I feel personally. I just think the story looks quite cute and innocent, despite the movie being a bit cheesy and having a lame villain. Also, it's by Nickelodeon and I'm curious to see how it'll play out because compared to what Nickelodeon is known for, this actually looks like a good movie for kids! I mean, I didn't see one perverted joke in the trailer! (When I think of Nickelodeon I think of gross, perverted stuff like iCarly, Victorious and Ren & Stimpy).

!!! SPOILER ALERT !!! I watched this movie, and I really like it. It is actually pretty memorable, partially due to the fact that there are not many movies about crabs. The romantic part is kind of and kind of not a romeo and juliet thing, because armen starts liking romana, but she's liking a rish guy. The rich guy is basically the villian, because when romana starts showing some intrest in Anemone (the worm in Armen's shell), because he was being cute to embaress armen. When the rish guy finds out, he starts a fight between the see crabs and land crabs. After the party, he beats up armen, but then armen and ramona get swept away together. They do spend a while together, and armen starts to not like ramona (or at least that's what it seems), but later starts liking her again. The war was just that the rish guy lied about how the land crabs killed ramona and armen. I mean, he didn't know they were alive, either. Oh, and the sea crabs are tourists that came to new jersey, and the land crabs don't like tourists, except the club owner, he accepts everyone. Now I do also have to mention, they actually handled the buff guy very different from a lot of movies. The buff guy (bobby) cares a whole lot about armen, in fact, he's usually looking out for armen a lot of the time. Later bobby actually destroys the locals only sign, because he was able to talk to shelly, ramona's sister who is deaf. He realized sea crabs aren't all that different from land crabs, or at least they aren't bad. I really like how they handled the buff guy, because he's not the big tough guy, instead he has a very soft heart. He helped shelly get back to her mom, but seeing as how he was buff, she kind of freaked out, and thought bobby was hurting shelly. If only I had paramount plus so I can watch it legally, and show paramount that I like the movie...

This film looks fun, it's a shame Paramount chose to market this film so late, that is deliberate sabotage, the studio already scored a major hit with Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, which is both an established property from Nickelodeon, and a sequel. I feel worse for the animators, cast and crew banjaxed by their own studio, so much time and effort expended, only for the rug to be pulled out from under them, apparently, original content must be sacrificed so established content go on bringing in capital, by the way, Dora the Explorer is getting a reboot, after all, Blue Clues got a reboot, meanwhile, Under the Boardwalk gets drowned.

Reminds me how Disney keep removing things from Disney+ so that no one can watch then, rather than give residuals or pay to advertise. Ruby Gilman was such a good movie and as a Little Mermaid adaptation it's phenomenal. I cannot praise it enough as an adaptation. Katzenberg who founded Dreamworks used to work at Disney and actually was in charge when the original Little Mermaid was made. If you read the novel by Hans Christian Andersen, you'd understand that this version actually reintroduces a lot of the elements (most of those rooted in feminism as Andersen was a supporter of the feminist movement), such as the importance of Ariel's female relatives. Ariel's sisters actually had two important scenes in the novel that the movie scrapped and she also had a grandmother in the novel. I was the only one at the cinema screening that day, so no one could see me lighting up the moment I saw Ruby's grandma. All Disney's live action needed, was to do what Ruby did; bring back more of the novel's feminist elements if they so desperately wanted a modern update instead of creating a confusing worldbuilding to suit their politics. Bring back the important scenes women in Ariel's life had. Bring back the fact Ariel and Ursula weren't fighting over Prince Eric like the original novel. Ruby did all of that, and even managed to capture the friendship bordering on sapphic vibes that Ariel and the princess had as Prince Eric genuinely was in love with another princess and Ursula wasn't involved. Disney mashed their two characters together, and Dreamworks took out them fighting over Eric and brought back Ariel being fine with the dude being in love with his princess. I saw Puss In Boots: The Last Wish and it gave me hope Dreamworks was going back to their old glorious days of Shrek 1&2.Knowing a lot of that stems from Katzenberg wanting to make a statement to his old company, I was stoked when I saw the trailer for Ruby and wondering what the full circle moment of going back to The Little Mermaid would be. Katzenberg lived up to my expectations and I still am raving to anyone who wil listen to me babbling about this movie. Because it's a cheffs kiss of an adaptation.

Why even make a movie if it's just going to be canned?? I've seen really good ideas get cancelled in production but have never seen a full movie just get swept under the rug! I guess it must be fun for a studio with endless amounts of money to just I guess waist but also not waist? Animations/ production people did get paid at least.

i hate that the fact that they are hermit crabs and they don't utilize the fact that they are hermit crabs. it's like they chose the fact that no one made a movie about this sea animal yet and used it. like why isn't this a romeo juliet story about beauty standards with shells. and since hermit crabs change shells their is constant pressure to look pretty. and maybe we can even have the roles reversed for Romeo and juilet archetype and it's the girl who has the "ugly shell" learns that she doesn't need to be perfectly beautiful to be loved. i like the idea of the worm in the shell tho. this movie was definitely sabotaged

They're not showing this movie at all in Puerto Rico from what I can see, since we pretty much only have one movie theater chain it's super easy to verify. Which is pretty weird since we tend to get a lot of indie films and even anime movies. 🤔

I watched it when it was released by a random coincidence. I just saw that Keke Palmer was in it so I watched. It was giving like west side story because they sing and the rivalry is kind of the main plot. it was cute, some of the scenery type of shots and the animation was goooodd SLAYY~~. If you have nothing to watch is fine. it is creative and funny at times. ^~^

There was a famous love song from the early 1960s with the title “Under the Boardwalk” by the Platters. I’m sure that song probably appears somewhere in the film, if it’s actually a jukebox musical.

Under the boardwalk is a the drifters song, a quite well known one two. I haven't seen the movie yet so can't say how it ties into the song, but at the very least it's a pun, and a refrance to if being a juke box musical
