The New Nevermind Mastering in Town

I found out the hard way that there's a new cut of Nevermind in circulation. Forgot to mention in the video that it's using the same barcode as the DGC pressing of the Grundman cut.
Also, I ended up getting a skeletal version of a Discogs entry going for this:

UPDATE 10.31.2022: the Pallas-pressed edition I just purchased from Acoustic Sounds arrived and it is in fact the Grundman cut 👍🤗

Yes, the reissue that is pressed at Pallas is the BG cut. I was not aware of a new reissue. Thanks!

Nice, I didn’t know about that Blake Babies reissue, but I’ll surely pick it up. Thanks for the heads up 👍🎶 Saw em with Lemonheads at a club in Boston in the early 90’s, which made up a large percentage of my formative musical years. I’m sure you can relate. Thanks again!

hey bro i think i’ve come across a first press 1991 vinyl of this album. i’ve seen some good prices online. how do i go about grading and selling this vinyl to a new loving deserving home that will show proper full appreciation

Interesting, that's not what they sold to me a few weeks ago. Yes, the Pallas pressing, cut by Bernie Grundman, is the one to get. Acoustic Sounds is still selling it, apparently Walmart no longer is.

Anyway it’s good to see you back in action. PS…..I got the Pallas cut years ago & having never heard the original either, to my ears it’s great.

I'm not addicted! I can stop anytime I want! But seriously, yes, the Pallas pressing, cut by Bernie Grundman, is the one I'm talking about. It's the one to get for sure. I sold the original pressing of the Grundman cut for $100, am replacing it with a later pressing of the same Grundman cut for $25. What a world, I tell ya. If it's going out of print, it's tempting to stock up on them now while they're still available. But I've never bought records for speculation purposes and I don't think I'll start now. No joy in that and sometimes you'll guess wrong.

Is that new Levi master the one they put out as the 30th anniversary with the 7”? I’ve never opened it due to the not so heralded pressing.

If it is the liner note sheet will say “Mastered for vinyl by Bernie Grundman” in the production notes, and there will be a BG in the dead wax.

To add on to what I just said: there are TWO Pallas pressings, one from 2013, one from 2017/2019. The 2013 has the ORG matrix info scratched out; the 2017/2019 versions do not have the ORG matrix info on them. But they’re both Grundman masters.

Hi. you have to find the one that has the "Pallas Hypesticker" on the cover. That pressing has the BG on the deadwax.

Discounters will always get a cheaper version to improve gross margin. I am obviously no audiophile as I have no clue about any of this. Very interesting and good luck on your search

Let us know if Walmart takes the album back. I’ve heard they do not take back vinyl. I bought the BG cut seems like a year ago. My original was a CD. Still have it. Is that worth anything? 😂

The Europe 1st press (Sonopress Germany) is nearly identical to the U.S. 1st, is beautifully pressed, and is still available for way less than the U.S. don’t waste your time or money on reissues. I’ve heard 3-5x Pallas BG pressings and they’re not great. Sonopress IS great.

I was under the impression the BG cut was the absolute last time it was mastered all analog with the original master tape before it got destroyed in the Universal fire. I could be wrong though.
