The New Odd Couple was an American sitcom television series that aired on ABC from 1982 to 1983, and was an updated version of the 1970s television series The Odd Couple. The New Odd Couple was the second attempt to remake a series of one of Neil Simon's plays with a primarily African-American and European-American cast. The first was Barefoot in the Park (which also premiered on September 24, 1970, the same day the original Odd Couple series did).
In this series, Felix and Oscar were both African-American college buddies who met in the 1950s. Felix was portrayed by Ron Glass and Oscar was portrayed by Demond Wilson. The characterizations were still the same, as Felix was a prissy neatfreak and Oscar was a fun-loving and sloppy character. John Schuck also appeared as Murray the Cop, who was kept Caucasian, as was the character of Roy, who was played by Bart Braverman.
The show ran for 18 episodes; eight of the episodes used recycled scripts from the original series. By the time the writers began producing new scripts, it was too late, as the show never found an audience. The series was cancelled in 1983.

Then when Demond Wilson and Ron Glass had the opportunity to have their own show I supported the show and thought it was really good and they were great. I remember wstching this show in the early 80's in Junior High School. I thought it was pretty cool to see the black version of this as well, and I was an Odd Couple show fan.

Actually, I liked the New Odd Couple better than the original version. And I thought that Demond Wilson and Ron Glass were just as good as Jack Klugman and Tony Randall.

I heard about this show. It seemed enjoyable. However both Ron Glass and Demond Wilson while okay as Felix and Oscar, already have cemented themselves in TV history. Mr. Glass will always be Det. Ron Harris, and Mr. Wilson will always be Lamont Sanford.

Ron Glass was perfect but the role did not fit Demond Wilson. He tried to imitate Jack Klugman/Oscar with the cigar and hat, it did not work.

Why did they have Demond Wilson be the joke teller in this series when we knew good and well he was always a set up man when we first watched him on Sanford And Son?

He’s never been a good actor imo. Always looking into the camera and into the audience with his hands in his pocket lol, always reads his lines like he’s in a play.

I always felt that If this show with the talented Actors Glass and Wilson did NOT have the "ODD Couple" franchise name with it and was instead was a similar plot of 2 Divorced men living in Manhattan in the early 80's could have actually been a hit. RIP Mr Glass.

And to make things worse, most of the scripts were remakes from the original series with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman.
@americangiant1003
@americangiant1003 4 жыл бұрын
@@BrotherDerrick3X Agreed. Klugman and Randall was "Oscar" and "Felix" no need for any damn remakes. The Series Creator Simon and the Producers should have just created from scratch a new show with the former Co Stars of the legendary shows "Barney Miller" with Mr. Glass and "Sanford and Son" with Mr. Wilson. Instead it became unfairly known as the "Black" Odd Couple. 1980's style.
