James , So pleased to see an unbiased review of a small Japanese car. Where I come from they are really popular and cheaper than in the UK still with all the kit. My swift sport performs better than anything of a similar price and all the bells and whistles are in the price range,not extras.

I have the same 1.2 in my Ignis and it is such a sweet unit and the economy is brilliant with the lower 855 kg weight. Currently getting 70 mpg brim to brim on Shell Optimax, which the engine really seems to like. Low weight seems the way to go, most cars are far too heavy now.

The Ignis with its higher centre of gravity is definitely not fun round the corners (body roll is significant) unlike the Swift. It’s a great eco city car though, I used to own one
@NotRubensDadАй бұрын
@@cowtc I think that is fair although I find it perfectly chuckable all the same. What it is good for is that little bit of ground clearance as it makes it a great rural car, which is why I sought one out as I mainly drive on country lanes, which are in a terrible state, plus you can stick it up the verge without grounding it. It is also indecently spacious inside for a small car, so makes a better small family car than a Swift, which I did also look at.

Interesting to have a review from a dealer of older used cars and in many ways I completely agree. Having bought the old model last year we really like it perhaps not as roomy or flexible as a previous gen Jazz and its 6 speed but for what it is ie a new car with a long warranty we can live with a 5 speed. Worth bearing in mind if you qualify for a blue light card you can get a decent price reduction definitely going to give the new model a look in the summer.

I liked my Swift. It was the previous model with the 1.0 turbo engine. I swapped it out for a new Fiat 500 which I find more involving to drive although significantly slower - I have to clean the flies off the back window every so often. The thing is, after driving a car capable of 120 mph and 0-60 in 10 seconds I was always stuck behind somebody going slower. Now it happens less often so I'm much more chilled out. The size of the car makes progress along the interesting lanes easier as I can always find some place to dive into if there's somebody coming the other way. Smaller, slower, lighter always makes for a more interesting drive on the kind of roads you find in the west country, Wales, the north and Scotland. If you live in the south east you have my sympathy. The ideal I guess would be an Austin Healey Sprite or an MG Midget where you can go at 100% most of the time but I'll settle for my 500 as a usable, modern daily.

I've driven the new 1.2 hybrid which is ordinary, but it does exactly what it says on the tin. Economical driving showing 66mpg with 230 miles on the clock. If you want a small 4x4 they do an Allgrip model with a slightly higher ride height. I can't recommend Suzuki enough. I have the previous model SZ5 Mild Hybrid with 1.0L 3 cyl Boosterjet Engine which has 109bhp. Got to say very underwhelmed by the new model, it just looks like a facelift of my car. Slightly different at the front, and the tail lamps slightly different as well. Interior is almost identical apart from the larger infotainment screen. Overall the car is not that much different. The main disappointment is the engine only delivering a measly 81bhp, don't get me wrong I love my Swift, but to release a new model almost identical with a lesser powered engine that is so much slower is a backwards step by Suzuki. BTW having now had a test drive in the new model a couple of weeks ago and can confirm it is like a snail on valium compared to The 1.0 SZ5 Boosterjet Engine, I was actually shocked at how much slower it was. Again I absolutely love my current Swift as it has everything, but current owners will be massively put off by a ridiculous loss in performance of a so called new model, and many like myself will not purchase this 'clone' of the previous model with a woefully underpowered engine.

What is with low horsepower from cars these days. At least the MG4 Hybrid you get 102bho from the engine admittedly a 1.5 engine. But combined with the motor it's something like 190 ISH bhp. And that is a full hybrid. And as for MPG figures I find most of them are complete and utter tosh, not the first time people have been led to believe they will get really good MPG figures (cough Fiat for example). Also it's all of 1 gram per kilometer better than the 3 hybrid. Having owned a problematic older 3 I still think I'd have the 3 hybrid over the Suzuki tbh. Personally opinion obviously but more power not less these days. Fed up with being stuck behind people in crap cars they can't actually get some speed up when required.

Nobody wants to buy superminis now James. Housewives all want 4 x 4 SUVs sitting up high.
@ChopsGarageАй бұрын
To say no one wants them is very general, I do a roaring trade in them. But SUV certainly popular however twice the price
@Andy-eo3mqАй бұрын
Speak for yourself. I have no doubt that if they'd actually bothered to allocate enough components to the manufacturing of them, ford could still sell fiestas as fast as they could build them. Even if the demand for superminis does become a niche, I suspect that the right product at the right price will sell like hot cakes: not everyone is daft enough to want an oversized car!

Having made my previous comment I also hate small cars with a passion, also the same as I hate all these bloody SUV's that people drive like they are invincible. People buy all the hype and turn into morons on the road. Test drive stuff and make your own decisions not based on reviewers and what rubbish they say. Make your own mind up what suits and works for you.

New one is so so ugly old one much better looking if anyone buys one make sure you park it facing the wall in the far corner of the car park so it doesn't frighten anyone 🤣
@ChopsGarageАй бұрын
Well that's an opinion not a fact of course. Manufacturers spend millions in research to ensure the majority do like the looks of the car
@ianputt2045Ай бұрын
@@ChopsGaragemaybe the Japanese people just like ugly cars

Its now 20 grand for a small boring runaround car 😑

Yep crept up fast didn't it. I can only assume the reality is no one ever pays that, they just lease or finance and then change at 3 or 4 years.
