These vehicles are fully imported from USA and then converted from LHD to RHD locally in Australia. Just like they have been doing with RAM, Chevy Silverado and more recently, the Ford F-150 all of which are also sold here in Australia. Toyota is late to the game here in Australia. Toyota's "game-plan" is different though - they are leasing a small number of Tundra's to the general public to "test" them over a 12-18 month period and then decide if they'll go on public sale here!

It's primarily a US/Canada vehicle and is too small for a diesel to be easy under EPA regulations. The real world cut off for diesels here in the US is 8,500 lbs/3855 kg GVWR/GVM. This is the absolute minimum to get into the less stringent diesel regulations. Class 2B trucks (8,501 to 10,000 lbs) are all closer to the 10,000 lb GVWR rating, with some manufacturers exceeding 10,000 lbs in order to keep a decent payload with an engine that weights 1,000+ lbs. Diesel pickups are almost all class 2B and class 3 (10,001 to 14,000 lbs) in the US and Canada.

Common thinking is that Graphite is a bad colour for Queensland. According to our high school physics, It supposedly absorbs more heat than white cars. Could you test it to see if it heats up more quickly and to a higher temperature if left in the sun than a white car? Another perception is that it is a more difficult car to see for older people because it melds in with bitumen colour. Can you test that?
@offgridoutfitters
@offgridoutfitters 3 ай бұрын
Hi there, Thanks for the note! We did some research and came up with the below: The visibility of cars, regardless of their colour, can depend on various factors, including lighting conditions, weather, and the observer's visual acuity. However, it's generally accepted that lighter-coloured cars, such as white or silver, tend to be more visible in low-light conditions and may stand out more against certain backgrounds compared to darker-coloured cars. For older people, factors such as reduced contrast sensitivity and visual acuity could potentially make it more challenging to see darker-coloured cars, particularly in low-light situations. Lighter-coloured cars may offer better visibility due to their higher contrast against the surrounding environment. That said, it's essential to note that visibility depends on multiple factors, including the specific shade of colour, the presence of reflective materials or markings on the car, and individual differences in vision. While lighter colours may generally offer better visibility, it's not a strict rule, and other factors also play a significant role. Additionally, proper lighting, reflective materials, and other safety features on vehicles can greatly enhance their visibility regardless of their colour. With regard to heat and colour, while I can't conduct physical experiments (we’ve only got the one Tundra!), I can provide insights based on scientific principles. The idea that darker colors absorb more heat than lighter colors is generally accurate due to the concept of albedo, which refers to the reflectivity of a surface. Lighter colors, such as white, have higher albedo and reflect more sunlight, while darker colors, like graphite, have lower albedo and absorb more sunlight. As a result, in direct sunlight, a graphite-colored car is likely to absorb more heat compared to a white car. This means that the surface temperature of the graphite car will likely rise more quickly and reach a higher temperature than the white car when exposed to the same sunlight and environmental conditions. However, it's essential to note that this doesn't necessarily mean that owning a graphite-colored car in Queensland is impractical. Many factors, such as vehicle design, insulation, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, can influence the interior temperature of a car. Additionally, strategies such as using window shades or parking in shaded areas can help mitigate the heat absorbed by the car's exterior. Ultimately, while darker-colored cars may absorb more heat, other factors come into play in determining overall comfort and practicality in different climates. Hope that helps! :)

It's easy for you to test. Get a white painted piece of metal and another black painted piece of metal. Put them both outside in the QLD sun for an hour and I bet you the Black will feel hotter than the White!. All things being equal, It's got to do with higher reflectivity of light from lighter coloured surfaces, so less heat absorption.
@napierroffey-mitchell6553
@napierroffey-mitchell6553 3 ай бұрын
Ther's little doubt about which would win. But higly reflective and metallic paints v dull, matt paints are variables that could affect the results, so I'd like to see the actual black and white cars tested. @@johncanalese588

darker colour absorb more heat than lighter ones. The lighter one do reflect more than absorb, so the darker ones will heat faster, same with house with darker metal roof like colorbond, we live in hot QLD weather, it feels much better thermal wise with white colorbond roof because it reflects not absorb, more energy efficient overall. If you live in colder states down south maybe its better to have darker colorbond roof, especially during winter, as the darker color will absorb and retain more heat to the inside of the house. it's the same principle more or less

This is NOT a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle or PHEV! You cannot charge it from external electrical power source. It is more a very Mild-Hybrid EV where the electric motor is there to kick-in and assist the Petrol engine at times when a short surge of Torque is needed. It is similar to the e-Torque system used on RAM pickup. The batteries for said electric motor are charged by the electric motor, acting as a generator which is attached to the petrol engine's transmission. It is actually a 36kW electric motor that is fed by a Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-Mh), not Lithium-Ion battery pack which has an energy capacity of 1.87kWh. So it is "bugger-all' electrical capacity and can't be driven as an "electric" vehicle.

It is programs like the remanufacture of this unit (and RAM/Silverdo etc) that is reviving Aussie automotive manufacturing! Support the cause! More Aussie manufactured content in these vehicles than your land cruisers etc

No diesel and 29 lph when towing 😬

To be honest, this is a common opinion we’re getting from people. Based on our experience so far, people are jumping to this conclusion far too quickly and without any experience The petrol / hybrid / turbo engine (iForce Max) is a seriously impressive engine. And so far, we’re sitting around 21 lph in mixed driving towing

@@offgridoutfitters that’s pretty good but then it depends on percentages. I was talking to a guy with the new Tundra and he said that as a Ute for carrying stuff it was superb and very economical but on a long tow on anything other than flat ground, it got pretty thirsty, this is not the first time I’ve heard this from a Tundra user. Anyway, you have one now and your driving style might be quite different too but either way, soon enough you’ll know. Enjoy.

@@TheTripleDubya US regulations (EPA and CAFE standards) and consumer preferences ("car like ride and handling") have taken the 1/2 ton segment out of the running for anything other than light towing duties. This is why we have a segment above "full size pickup" called "large pickup". Large pickups don't count against fleet fuel economy numbers and have different emissions regulations. Toyota does not compete in this segment.

@@rich7447 makes sense, I just remember them being workhorses but now they’re a luxury item, even my 2500 is pretty flash but it gets used for towing mostly.

Don’t compare it to the 200 it’s not trying to be one, it’s also not off-road vehicle it’s a long distance towing vehicle. Enjoy

Thanks for the note. As you say, one of the things the Tundras good at is as a Long distance tow vehicle… Which is exactly the 200 is / was. We’re making the comparison for no other reason than we want to ✌🏼
