I have managed to go have a look at and film the next generation of the Trek Madone. Lighter, as aero. Let's see how it looks in person, how much it weights and just what are the differences between the frame shapes of the old Gen 7 Madone.
Chapters:
00:00 - Intro + Frame changes
05:39 - New Bottles
06:43 - New Handlebars
07:55 - The Range/ Pain jobs
10:53 - New tyres
11:57 - Weight
12:41 - Conclusions/ Extras

If this bike is as fast as Madone Gen.7 with its new aero bottles and cages, does that mean Gen.7 Madone will be faster when equipped with the same aero bottles and cages? 😆

Pretty much yes, they pulled the same line with the Venge and the Sl8.

Yup. The advantage of the aero bottles is narrower frontal area and smooths out the transition to the seat tube from the down tube by quite a lot.

Great comparison between the two bikes!! I really like the slimmed down look of the emonda, would love to try it out!

Great info and review of the spec and differences. Definitely bikes are getting slimmer again! The hole still feels somewhat a try too hard feature to me.

I think the Gen 7 is just better looking overall, more aggressive and more like a “concept” bike

I totally see what you mean by concept bike. It does have that look. I thought the same until I saw the gen 8 in person. I think the shapes seem a bit more balanced. Photos though of the gen 7 looks incredible

I just set out to get a project one gen 7 dura ace only to see they stopped making them, and they’re sold out everywhere. I don’t like the new madone at all and my 2018 Emonda weighs 17lbs flat with mechanical Ultegra.

I wonder where that extra weight is compared to the sl8. Maybe the crazy paint jobs and the iso flow? Or did they choose to go more aero than the sl8 and so still needed the extra weight?
@cyclingunboxed
@cyclingunboxed 27 күн бұрын
It’s hard to say isn’t it. I did also think paint but surely that’s only 100-150g? I still reckon you would probably need a sensitive wind tunnel to tell the difference between this and the sl8.

@@cyclingunboxed some of the glossy finished S-Works SL8's come in at damn near the weight of the matte finished 10r Pro SL8's so paint can easily account for 150g. The new Madone is a porker though and, component for component, seems like it will always be nearly a pound heavier than an equally specced SL8. hopefully its ride quality continues to be exemplary.

Sad that they lost so much aero over gen 7 for such a little drop in weight.

Nearly bought a gen 8 in XL because I liked the design until I saw an actual image of how the XL looks and boy the proportions are way off. Getting a gen 7 in size 60 now which looks way better for this bigger size

I do think for most bike, the 54/56/58 are the best looking geometry wise. However if you are larger, the bigger bikes do better with the deeper tubes so I think you have made the right choice from an attractiveness perspective

This is an Emonda with the Madone A hole. Uglier bike in my opinion…Seen it, ridden it…Not a fan. To be honest, the Gen 6 LOOKS better than both 7 and 8. 77s and 320g…Not.a racer, so… The Madone is the most comfortable bike I have ever been on and owned. It’s great for metric and century rides…Serious.

My dad has had both the Gen 6 and Gen 7 and preferred the comfort of the Gen 6. I have a review coming out next Sunday on the Gen 7 and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it felt when climbing and the comfort of the bike.

7.6 kg without pedals is too heavy for a climbing bike.

1) the gen 7 is not heavy. It’s a true aero bike which is supposed to have a little more weight 2) the gen 8 is not as light as they claim- not even close - so that 320 grams is BS The gen 8 is not faster than the gen 7. Road SLR 7 gen 8 and my current SLR 7 gen7- the new one is not faster , not more comfortable. The lack of sizes available- is gonna hurt more people than they think.

I assume you are referring to the weight of the bike here?
@thedronescene7474
@thedronescene7474 27 күн бұрын
That, along with all the aero claims. Every year, it's the same nonsense: 'This new bike is X% faster than the previous model.' If we added up all those percentages from previous years, the bike should literally ride itself by now, lol.

Yeah maybe double check those scales I think. Or maybe empty the water bottles?
@cyclingunboxed

I think scales variation is probably the main factor here. Water bottles were empty but it is also strange to weight with them on.

@cyclingunboxed
@cyclingunboxed 15 күн бұрын
I said it on the video but I think it only matches the previous gen because of those water bottles. I will say though that aero isn’t something that we can see and going smaller does reduce the area component of cda. Probably the most important aspect of aero. I think just because the tubes aren’t as deep, doesn’t make it less aero. I’m sure Tour magazine will get this in their wind tunnel and put it to the test! We shall find out then
