When Ernesto Sirolli's first TEDx talk, "Shut up and listen," appeared on the front page of TED.com, he was surprised the effect his talk--outlining his own mistakes during his work in international development--had upon on a new generation, the millennials. He discovered that, like the Victorians more than a century ago, this generation promises to forever change the world as we know it. In this talk, Sirolli discusses this promise and how we can empower and support these "New Victorians."
Ernesto Sirolli is a noted authority in the field of sustainable economic development and is the Founder of the Sirolli Institute, an international non-profit organization that teaches community leaders how to establish and maintain Enterprise Facilitation projects in their community. The Institute is now training communities in the USA, Canada, Australia, England and Scotland.
In 1985, he pioneered in Esperance, a small rural community in Western Australia, a unique economic development approach based on harnessing the passion, determination, intelligence, and resourcefulness of the local people. The striking results of "The Esperance Experience" have prompted more than 250 communities around the world to adopt responsive, person-centered approaches to local economic development similar to the Enterprise Facilitation® model pioneered in Esperance.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Excellent talk! Finally someone focusing on the potential and positive trends in the millennial generation _while barely even acknowledging the negative stereotypes!_ To answer his question about how we can give the new Victorians the means to change the world, my (lack of) money's on Universal Basic Income! Seriously, after this talk I feel like it needs to happen even sooner so we can essentially save the human race.

What a beautifully eloquent talk. I fear for generation Alpha and all the generations that succeed them. As the children of us millennials they will be given a torch to bear by us, of and for the moral ethical conduct and the good of all living and sentient life on our little world. There are hardships to endure due to the situations we have been born into that were not created by us, only through conscious acts, right will can change for the better endure. We have to imagine a future that works, to design structures in our minds that push boundaries and create new opportunities for a developing future. “Imagine a building that is three dimensionally printed that pulls water from below its foundations using capillary attraction. That is clad in trans Lucent panels that partially allow natural light while also capturing solar energy for heating and electricity”.”The realms of possibilities are imagined”

We didn't name it so we wouldn't have to announce it. We just do it and apologize when we need to.
