As a Canadian, I can say that Norm's influence reached far beyond the U.S. borders. I have been a fan of Norm, T.O.H., and the New Yankee Workshop for decades and have learned much of what I know from him. I miss his work, his ability to teach, and wish him and his family the best.

I'm 41 years old and I grew up watching Norm on PBS through the rabbit ears on my garage sale purchased black and white TV. I loved watching and learning how to make everything out of wood. Thank you Norm for teaching me.

I'm a master furniture maker today thanks to THE NEW YANKEE WORKSHOP, I knew nothing about cabinet making or furniture making before watching THE NEW YANKEE WORKSHOP. I'd even bought the same delta table saw, wood lathe, surface planer, router and router/shaper that Norm had on the show. And 34 years later, they all still work, perfectly.

As a teenaged girl....I used to love watching THIS OLD HOUSE on PBS channel 11 in Chicago, IL. Then when Norm got his own show with NYWS.....I was definitely hooked!!! I loved the way he took the time to explain every piece of equipment and its purpose.....and he always stressed SAFETY FIRST.... and....a clean workshop is a productive workshop. I love that the show offered blue prints of every piece he made so you can make it yourself....This was true DIY.....I really miss him but glad I can find the shows on KZfaq!!!

He was lucky to have a great teacher. It was new yankee workshop that got me into woodworking. I'm retired, and I spend my time in the garage woodworking, and from time to time, I go back and watch his old shows. Thanks, Norm, for the shows!

We all love and miss you Norm. The woodwork you did looked so simple to do. At least that is what I thought but, there was a mass of education and experience behind Norm to do what he does with ease. A true artist at work!

Norm inspired me to build my own house. With only one failed class in woodworking I’ve built a 5500 sq ft three story double timber frame. Black walnut timbers on the outside separated by SIPs and white oak timbers on the inside. Thank you Norm.

My father was a journeyman cabinet maker. My career in woodworking began when i was four. My dad was handsawing and the line he had drawn kept disappearing in sawdust. I was just tall enough to slightly look down at the work surface as he sawed. I leaned a little closer and poof!, blew the dust away with each stroke. I was immediately hired... as slave labor until i was 16. My dad insulted me in front of a neighbor i respected. The neighbor was admiring a rabbit hutch i had built all by myself. My dad raised rabbits, rather, i raised the rabbits he bought. He told the neighbor, "Yeah, she does good work, but she's like a mule. You have to hit her in the head with a shovel first. I was infuriated and refused to ever work with him again. I stormed off and he was embarrassed in front of the neighbor. Fair is fair. End of slave labor.
