@batsy_
@batsy_ 3 жыл бұрын
@Terri Seaton true, which is why I felt dumb when I first heard this because OF COURSE they all sound good individually when they're all singing their parts. When listening to this stuff though you just kinda forget sometimes that they're all singing though and it's not some backtrack their singing along to. Which I guess also shows that they're good at what they do too :)

You can hear them individually when they sing their Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious parody.
@kateshiningdeer3334
@kateshiningdeer3334 2 жыл бұрын
It totally does. Frankly, a lot of people in choirs don't have stellar voices - that's part of why they're in choirs instead of singing individually (and I know this because *I* am one of those people, LOL.) If your voice is really good, you strive for the solos, for example. In Barbershop, where you have only 4 people, you have to be a LOT better - and I also know this from singing Barbershop (again, in a choir class, and with about 4 people per part instead of only one) and it's a LOT tougher to stay on your part (especially if, like me, you enjoy singing harmonies.) With about 4 people per part, I did much better as there was someone else singing my same part, so I didn't accidentally wander to another part. Again, from my own experience, I cannot even IMAGINE trying to sing alone, as the only one doing my part, when the people around me are singing such gorgeous harmonies and doing it so well. It's so easy for me to "wander" off of my part to a note that seems like it should be in "my part" even though it's not. So to be in a foursome like this, you have to be WAY better singers. You have to be able to carry your part, not wander, and balance your volume so you "fit in" with the overall harmony - a lot of things to think about at once. And because their voices blend so nicely, it's easy to forget, just as you said, that each of them are an individual voice, and they ALL have to be good in order to sound good together. I would (generally) argue that in each singing group (no matter the kind) you have some people who are relatively better and some are relatively worse, but I would say that in this particular group, it's pretty even. It's part of why their "sound" is so good. And I think that's generally true for Barbershop as a style. There's not really any room to NOT balance each other out and still have it sound good. So I think Barbershop inherently requires more talented (and better trained - note follows) people than other singing styles. So yes, you completely make sense to anyone who has sung anything with another person where they're singing a different part. Even if you're just doing "Simon & Garfunkle" with a friend! NOTE: I DID discover that you CAN learn some of this stuff by training - my barbershop class showed me that! I'm much better at following "my part" in small groups than I used to be, though I'm REALLY out of practice since I haven't sung with a small group in at least a decade now. I also had a choir director in HS who encouraged me to participate in a solo event, and her additional training really improved how I sing overall - as did the advice from the judges - I still use the techniques I learned from that one experience. So, if anyone out there reading this has any desire to improve the way you sing, as long as you can do two things to start with (carry a tune and be on the beat) I firmly believe that you can improve your singing ability with training. You may never be a fantastic solo artist, but you can seriously improve your skillset. If this is something you love, I heartily encourage you to go for it.

What a boat load of crock, 6th place. Everybody loves them except the judges. At this point giving them the medal would seem beneath them. They don't need a medal to prove nothing. Calm down, they're not perfect. Their humor sometimes misses its mark. Timing and pacing are also slightly unpolished. Joey is sometimes a bit off on the high notes. This was really good song, got one of their best scores. But some of the others weren't up to snuff. Yes they have much more mainstream appeal than the others, and they're also my favourites, but that doesn't make them the best in a technical optic.

I figured it was some kind of contest and aside from just crawling this youtube channel, I'd love to watch an entire contest to have a bit more context. Second: Is this an annual contest and can I watch it from Germany? (Hallo! ^_^) Third: Is there like a website or Twitter or something where all those related infos land? I'd love to keep an eye out. @@IngwiePhoenix Hi! 1. This video was from the Barbershop Harmony Society's 2019 International Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. 2. I believe this is an annual contest, obviously there wasn't one for 2020 but fingers cross we get a 2021 contest! 3. I'm not sure but I'd recommend searching the Barbershop Harmony Society on various media sites, but the best way to see more barbershop videos like this is on the society's KZfaq video :>

@@HallowCosmo Plenty of groups do comedy songs. NFF just isn't at a championship level yet with their technical skill. Judges aren't picking on them or anything, they're just not as technically good as the quarters above them yet. Give it 5-10 years and they'll be in the AIC.
