The revised Blackbird XLC hammock is available in single- and double-layer configurations with your choice of suspension, much like the original version. To enable you to quickly add any aftermarket suspension of your choosing, we currently offer it with our well-liked webbing/buckle suspension, our weight-saving whoopie sling suspension, or with nothing but continuous loops. We also replaced the inconvenient plastic toggle at the top of the canopy with a micro carabiner for convenience's sake. Like before, it also includes a double-ended stuff sack with a red identifying cord at one end to make it simple to know which end of the hammock you are holding.
The new XLC has a zipper that runs the full length of both sides of the hammock body, just like the first-generation models did, but the new arrangement enables the hammock to be completely unzipped across its entire length. The user can easily enter or depart the hammock on any side they like this way. The top piece can be completely removed, just like the original model, and stored at home when not in use. The new XLC offers the same foot box for optimum legroom as well as a conveniently placed storage shelf that provides around 2 square feet of easily accessible internal storage space.
The improved zipper design on the new model allows the user to easily remove the top, turn it inside out, and reconfigure the hammock as a reverse lay model, with the head right and feet left instead of the standard-lay, head left / feet right arrangement. The updated zipper also makes it possible to buy add-on accessories in the future, allowing you to develop and customize your hammock system as you go.
The new XLC includes an optional top cover, just like the older model. Like before, top covers are constructed of permeable, wind- and water-resistant fabric and are frequently used in cooler weather to block the wind and trap a little more heat. Two built-in air vents, one in the peak at the foot end and the other between the tie-outs, which also serve as a window with a broad field of view, are new additions to the top cover, along with a new, lighter-weight fabric.
The 2/3-length Yeti and our full-length Wooki are two of our underquilt styles that work with the XLC just as previously. Anyone wishing to update their bottom insulation FROM a sleeping pad to something more pleasant may consider one of these underquilts. The new XLC now offers an underquilt protector for individuals who wish to give their hammock even more wind and weather protection. In cooler weather, an underquilt protector enables the user to completely shield the bottom of their hammock from the wind without using a full-sized winter tarp. Ours fastens with a straightforward shoestring tie at each end, but it can also be zipped up to the top cover to create a full-on winter sock that seals off your hammock and all of your insulation inside its own breathable, wind- and water-resistant microclimate.
Finally, the XLC works with all of our models of lightweight tarps. Therefore, if you want to save weight, top it all off with the MiniFly, the SuperFly, or the ThunderFly, depending on your coverage needs. Warbonnet has you covered no matter when or where you go hammocking.

I’ve had an XLC for years and spent lots of time sleeping in a great hammock, I’m going to give this hammock 5 stars without even trying it.

Great that you've added some of the versability that was available elsewhere. Combined with the footbox and shelf, the XLC is back to the front of the field imo.

Just received my WB Blackbird XLC on Thursday, layer out on Saturday 20 degrees with snow on the ground! New to hammocking. So comfortable, love everything about it. Couldn’t believe how comfortable it was. Just used a pad in between the layers, warm enough. Hoping my wife surprises me with a Wookiee for my birthday ! Well done Warbonnet! Thanks Shug for all the suggestions through your videos. Super easy to put up, less than 5 minutes.

Looks like there's gonna be a lot of used older model XLC's available soon in the for sale section of the forum! Man, I love my XLC, but the versatility and options of this one are gonna make it hard to keep! When I bought mine, I forgot to click the tab to add a winter cover to the order. I was able to find a HF member who had a spare to let me try first to see if the zippers matched before I bough it though. They didn't line up properly, but I bought it anyway and attach it over the Bugnet with the end toggles and 4 mitten hooks. It kinda works, but it has a lot of gaps and doesn't look as nice as if it were zipped on. The new one will alleviate that problem in the future it seems. Great job Brandon, love the new features!

Not many boxes left unchecked now, Brandon. I hope that the continuous loop alternative will soon be available for other hammocks, preferably as a selectable ordering option.

Great Job Brandon and all the crew at WBO!!! However, I don't get on with gathered end hammocks, so have the ridgerunner and boy do I love that!!!! Are there any updates or ridgerunner specific items on the horizon? My dream item would be a breathable 100% waterproof spindrift with waterproof zips and some form of tie outs or internal spreader rod(s) to prevent the hammock making contact with the spindrift on those unavoidable condensation days like heavy rain days on end of heavy frost at night with direct sun on the spindrift next morning. Kindest regards Dean Cooling Wales, UK

Am I hearing this correctly, adding a top and an underquilt protector will keep you dry in a rain storm? I assume that is NOT true given that there is a window box at the peak (foot end) that I assume would let water come in. But, I just want to verify that before I go this route vs. a tarp route on the top.

The winter top cover and underquilt protector are not meant to be a tarp replacement. Yes the set up will shed mild precipitation, but it is not meant to replace a tarp, rather create a microclimate and block drafts.

too bad existing models (you know, like the one i own) can't be upgraded with a few parts...i would love to add a winter top cover to mine, just couldn't afford it when I bought the xlc.

Kevin Scurlock the WBBBs don't lose much value over time, so you could list yours on hammockforums.net and get most of your investment back. That would make the upgrade a bit easier to stomach. Do it soon before there are a flood of others.

Does it bother anyone else that Warbonnet has a logo of a Native American with a Native American head dress and it's owned by a white man? I bought an underquilt from this company and when I saw the logo I had to send it back and they charged me a 20% restocking fee but I could not stomach the cultural appropriation by this company.

No it doesn't bother anyone else. You're just a virtue signaling snowflake and no one.thinks you're better person for sending it back.
