The vstrom 800de doesnt feel that heavy. I own one and its very easy to pick up. I dont understand the torque values compared to the transalp. The de has way more torque down low where as the transalp needs rung out.

I sold my T7 and purchased the 2023 KTM 390 Adventure SW. Gotta have spoked wheels. For me it was a game changer, I'm having more fun off-road due to weight and lower center of gravity. The bike also has plenty of power on the road as well. Really fun bike. Lot's of aftermarket piece's available for the bike to add for content. Good luck on your choice.

Too funny dude. Traded my Gen3 in on a Yellow/blue 800DE--Couldn't pay me to go back to a KLR (do love them tho). RE 450 is too heavy for what it is. The new 390 ADV spy photos look like that will be a great small ADV. TA750 is great and all, just looks like a parts-bin bike Honda threw together IMO. They can do so much better..... I hope Honda offers an up-spec model with better suspension. New VStrom just feels like Suzuki really tried to compete. It is SUPRISINGLY good off road. Internet needs a Tenere to VStrom convert! Like to hear how you feel they compare. I knew you'd come around.... 😁

The yellow/blue color scheme on the 800DE is really sharp. I even love the grey as well. I appreciate that they took a chance, as opposed to Honda and their matte black rendition on the TA. The Euro model TA looked nice, shame they couldn't bring it across the pond.

I've owned almost a lot of dual sports and adventure bikes, and when the V-strom 800DE came out, I was skeptical, but ended up riding it. After that ride, I bought one. Found a great deal on it and it is sweet. Excellent suspension, excellent motor, and super comfortable. It is also crazy smooth. I looked at the transalp, but decided against it, because after a skid plate, the bike sits too low to the ground and it absolutely needs the skid plate, so you don't rip off the oil pan that sticks out on the bottom. I'm sure the transalp is a pleasure to ride, but I think the V-strom is a better bike.

I just bought my 800 de, loving it, I think suzuki also had discount pricing in December, a lot of dealers usually keep that discount going for a bit, mine was $2000 off original price! As far as it's weight, this is only my 2nd motorcycle ever, my first was a tiny royal enfield meteor meteor 350, and I'll say this, the v strom to me feels lighter, way easier to ride and maneuver both while riding, and just moving the thing around in the garage. I can even easily push it up my driveway with an incline. Suzuki did an amazing job hiding its weight.

I decided on 800de. Not only does the suspension have a long travel, but it is fully adjustable and works really well (in my opinion, better than in the KTM 890 Adventure S WP Apex). Another advantage is the center of gravity - in offroad it behaves as if it were lighter than the T7, not heavier. Another advantage is the electronics, the Gravel mode works well in offroad (unlike TC in Transalp). Next advantage is the detachable subframe and very comfortable seat. I tested various motorcycles and bought this one, I ride mainly offroad, I also have a hard enduro 450. In my opinion, the 800de is the best combination of very good behavior on the road and good offroad. (for example, the 890 adventure R will certainly be better for offroad use, but worse for a long road trip). As for the KTM 390, the adventure R version will be interesting (if it comes out, as the rumors say), still light but with better XPLOR suspension. The presented 390, even with spoked wheels, has neither great off-road nor road capabilities.

@@KelvinRozema-nh9lp when you look at the parameters on paper, this is what it looks like. That's why I didn't consider buying it at all. But the test drive showed otherwise. Despite the weight, the off-road feeling is lightness of driving (better than the T7, confirmed by the owner of the T7 who rides with me). The engine has plenty of power and easily leaves the T7 behind on the road. The suspension is comfortable, but after increasing the front compression you can drive quite dynamically. importantly, it is worth increasing the rebound at the back (full adjustment is useful). The fact is that even the best offroad medium adv, still weighing 200kg, will never be a super efficient offroad equipment.
@KelvinRozema-nh9lp

@@marceliszp4803 it feels lighter but it’s not. Taking the rider out of the equation, the T7 is a far superior off road machine. However, 95% of riders will find it top-heavy and uncomfortable on the road. If you are making the argument that it is a stable adventure bike for touring, then I and a lot of credible reviewers would agree with that. Those same reviews put it at the bottom of its class for off road ability. It’s a stable platform for touring, and that is what a lot of people are looking for but let’s get serious. You don’t see Pol Terres rock hopping on a V Strom. The other comment you made about the KTM 390 adventure is bogus. It is considered by most of the reviews to be at the top of the lightweight adventure class both on the road and off. Will a dual sport be better off-road then the 390, absolutely. Does my WR 450 F make a dual sports look slow and stupid, absolutely. Does my WR 450 F give me arm pump and make my ass sore after a day of riding, absolutely. At that point would I want to ride home on a V Strom, absolutely. It’s a two wheel couch, dude.

Last summmer I bought two new bikes, a ktm 390 adventure and a vstrom 800 de. About the 390, it was lightweight, fuel efficient and better than a crf250l by alot but mine had an issue since the first day. It would take 5-7 tries for the bike to start. Once warmed up it would be ok. The vstrom is a much better bike but much heavier. However for my riding I rather have the vstrom. I no longer have the ktm.

I have what could charitably be described as an ADV bike problem. I am 5' 8" tall 30 inch inseam. In the last few years I have had the Suzuki V-Strom 650, Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sport 1100, Yamaha Tenere 700, KTM 390 Adventure, KTM 890 Adventure. So far the KTM 390 Adventure is my go to ADV bike. Mostly because it fits me and is light so I can more easily manage it off road. It is confidence inspiring for me. The suspension travel is not that big a deal because it is not a soft squishy suspension like you get on some of the Japanese lower priced ADV bikes. It's the WP Apex fully adjustable I would say it's actually a plus for the bike. However, it is a KTM built by Bajaj in India that does give me some pause for long term reliability. That being said mine has never given me a days trouble. I also like my 890 for it's low center of gravity does not feel like a 470 pound bike almost feels as light as the 390. But that one I trust even less. It has given me problems. Never left me stranded, but those bikes have issues. Did not care for the Tenere as it felt top heavy to me. Love the Honda ATAS as a touring bike and good for light off road. While it will probably go anywhere I would not feel comfortable because that bike is definitely big and heavy. It has more in common with a Gold Wing than a dirt bike.

I have a Suzuki DRZ 400 that I ride off road and really like. I just bought the KTM 390 Adventure to go along with the DRZ. I use the DRZ for harder off road and the KTM has been great for logging, fire, forestry roads along with curvy back roads and around town. Also of course does much better on the freeway than the DRZ. I like that the KTM is so light which makes it easy to ride off road. I’m having a lot of fun with the KTM. I have a Harley V-Rod for street use. Now I’m waiting for the KTM Adventure R to come out….

I have taken my KTM 390 Adventure all over. I have ridden extreme offroad in Death Valley NP and I have also distance long distance travel on this bike all the way to La Paz, Baja Mexico and back. It does require some modifications to get it to fit you, but once that is done it is a very capable bike and much easier to ride than a KLR offroad due to the weight. You have to make this bike scream to get the most out of it but once you get over the hesitation of using the upper RPM range it will come alive.

For content purpose's Himalayan 450 all day. The global hype for that bike is crazy. and KTM is coming out with a more offroad 390 like in a dual sport type adv but there's a wait on that one too. I live in wisconsin as well. Hit up Tytlers cycles in De Pere they sell RE, BMW, Ducati, and Indians. And down the road there's another power sports place that sells KTM's. I bought my KLR beginning of 2023. I almost bought a 390 adv but I got the KLR for a steal. Once the Himalayan 450 becomes avalible I will be making my way to Tytlers to check it out for sure. There is a reason why the Suzuki 800DE is a little more expensive, ITS BETTER! It's easier to pick up than the T7 and as easy as the Talp. Electronic package, fully adjustable suspension, and torque are also superior to T7 and Talp. If you're like me, you will get the 800DE Adventure which gets you everything you need and nothing else to purchase. I do mostly off road and only ride roads to get to the dirt. Off road means OFF ROAD, it you're on a road a car can travel or on GPS you're not off road. The new KTM 390 looks promising but probably won't be out until 2025. If you're the type of person to by Chinese products, the CFMoto MT450 looks like a banger.

Transalp suspension is preload adjust only. 800DE is preload, compression, and rebound fully adjustable. I do find the 800DE needs a stiffer rear spring for a 300-pound rider 🙂28-degree rake, FYI. I guess the 800DE weight might be too much, but that bigger tank, the extra oil capacity, the bigger cooling capacity, and the heavier and better suspension, is why its heavier. Lighter bike that's cheap is the DR650, but you'd have to invest in a bigger tank and if you are heavier than 180 ponds, you might need to invest in suspension upgrades. It's 385 pounds with an aftermarket 5.3-gal tank. and no 6th gear. KTM 500EXC is a really light bike with balls, but I'm not sure about reliability. 11+ inch travel, 14-inch ground clearance, 260 pounds. 6 speed. I just see the Transalp as a more adventure touring road bike, without investing a lot on suspension.

It's a big difference in the real life... i own an Himalayan, with little power, but the torque is present from very low RPM, and i ride almost in 5th gear all the time : very relaxing ride. Very easy in off road thanks to his torque at very low RPM and the 21 front wheel

I currently have a t7, but have owned a dl650 in the past, put tons of miles on it, great bike, and if you are doing more street than offroad, my guess is the suzuki is better. I almost wish I'd considered the 800 a little more. Also dealers seem to be selling 23 800de's at deep discounts right now. Local dealer has a new one on the floor for $9499. Back on topic, the transalp looks like a fragile, cheap Chinese toy, and the 390 just doesn't interest me. Miniature euro adv bike with too many electronics.

i have a 390 adv and it’s my first bike but it’s been amazing for me, very confidence inspiring both on and off-road, the toggleable abs and the convenience of every thing in the tft makes me love it, you can even change the song and volume playing through your cardo with the handle bar buttons, only downside is the wheel size but i’ve never had a problem with it, i can fly 50 mph down trails my jeep can only go 15 MAX

Brother, it's not the bike that makes us want to watch the videos; it's YOU and the content or subject of the video. If you HAVE to get a new bike, then do it. But, if you're doing that just for videos I suggest just getting more creative, going to new off-road trails, or maybe do a few BDR's. Whatever you do, just be YOU and have fun with it. Go for it!!!

Why not set up the 701 for dirt travel? Rade aux tank, highland X2 bags, crash bars. All the power you need, 320#, much more ground clearance, blah, blah.

Great video for me. I have a 2015 KLR and at 60 years old, it’s just too heavy. I really like the Himalayan and I too watched Itchy Boots on it. The Transalp is looking very nice in that I want to take my son riding with me off road. What do you think about a good 2 up bike?

The versys x300 is comparable with the klr. I had a klr now the versys. Versys has about same power, 6 speed, smoother, more agile and fun, better gauge cluster, more enjoyable on highway, long fuel range, lighter weight, great wind protection and better fuel mileage. The only issue with the versys is you have to get use to the higher revs but in the mountains and twisties the extra wide rev range is a blast especially with the slipper clutch.

You did not talk about it, but the Aprilia Taureg 660 is a little more expensive than all the bikes listed, but it's lighter than anything you listed fully adjustable KYB shocks, cruise control and has a low center of gravity.

The 390 I think is getting a new generation soon? Might be better to wait for that. I feel like someone shopping for a KLR, the closest thing I think would be the Himalayan to cross shop for.

There are two others you could consider: old school option, Suzuki DR650… or modern option like Aprilia Tuareg. Both of which are capable off road.

I got the Transalp in December and thus far am really liking it although as I'm in Canada it'll be a few months now until I can ride it again. The KTMs always sound and look impressive and are likely great to ride but the reported mechanical and reliability issues have always scared me off. The vstroms have always been good and reliable bikes just kind of underwhelming. Most reviews I've seen point out how heavy they are and while a nice torquey motor they just seem kind of meh

Fuel milage on the ktm is phenomenal. My wife and I went on a day ride last summer two up and got 67.5 mpg. I love that bike on the road and it’s a blast offroad. Gen 2 Klr def had better wind protection though.

I have gen 3 klr and 22 KTM 390. The klr is a chill out and cruise bike (for me) and the ktm is a bit more on the hooligan side. The ktm is very fun bike but it is a more harsh ride off road than the klr and just accept that you will have quite a bit more wind noise/buffetting at highway speeds. I have tried a couple of aftermarket wind screens but haven't found anything I really like so went back to stock in low position.

@@SwankyCatProductions The KLR is better at tractoring/chugging offroad with higher torque but other than that the performnce is pretty similar. Just have to rev the ktm more than the klr but the ktm engine likes to be revved more than the klr's engine does. The KTM feels pretty good at hwy speeds engine wise.

Seeing as you want to gel with a bike, you need to test ride 😁 For lighter weight, and much more performance than the KLR, have you considered any of the 690/701/700 clones? Alternatively, for lighter weight and very similar performance and feel (but better offroad) there's the DR650.

I went from a KLR to a KTM 390 adv and I will never look back. Besides how fast it goes it's so much more fun off-roading with a lighter bike and the tech on it alone is worth switching. I was able to put a real cruise control on the KTM. The KLR only had throttle locks. I am looking forward to the CFMoto 450 mt and the 2025 KTM adv390 (huge upgrades on the 2025). I will definitely switch to one of those in the future.

With the increased flavors of 450 to 500 cc bikes coming in 2024 there that maybe a reason to pause for a few months. I bought a new 2021 Kawasaki X300 and it is large in size for only a 300 and is a fun bike to ride. At 386 lbs is is light and that is what I sought after - also with a P-twin and 6 speed. The X300 is 40 hp at the crank so it isn't a power house at all but will crack 100 mph. It is a Ninja borrowed engine and the reliability cannot be beaten. My KZfaq channel is dedicated to the X300 and has many common accessories installations and can be a good reference of what can be done with the X300. I like your KLR content and will miss that aspect of your channel but understand you need to move on. My channel is model (X300) specific and will never grow bigger.

If the Royal Enfield was a twin cylinder, it would be at the top of my list. The Suzuki may have lost me at no cruise. CFMoto has a couple good options. Thought about the Transalp, but Hondas decision to only make them available for content creaters turned me off.

I wish Suzuki would update their line to get ride of the vstrom 650 and instead make a DRZ400r(rally) with a fuel injected 6 speed single and some basic fairings/skid plate/crash bars. Would probably keep price under $7999 and 400lb curb weight.

I own both the gen3 klr 650 and the ktm390 adventure. I love both. The ktm is noticeably lighter and feels much quicker. I ride the klr when I'm feeling like a relaxed road trip and the ktm when a sporty feel is the need. They both are great on dirt/gravel roads but the ktm gives me more confidence due to the lighter weight and smaller size of the bike. I wouldn't want to do any serious off roading with either. I'm 5'10 160lbs 31 "inseam

It’s horses for courses, I’ve always found your more likely to challenge a bike off road if your not worried about the repair costs, so in that case I would go for the cheap tractor le the himmy or Kim 390. But if your doing more on road go for the 800de.
